ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is St. Nicholas Day also know as the Feast of St. Nicholas, this holiday commemorates the early Christian bishop who became best known as Santa Claus.
Traditionally people across the world will celebrate with gift giving , stories and a feast. In honor of the occasion gather your family to write letters to old St. Nick.
St Nicholas was born in Patara, Lycia part of modern day Turkey and died on December 6th in the year 343 AD. Centuries after his death St. Nicholas became know as the patron saint of children and a generous bringer of gifts. His feast day is widely celebrated in Europe. The legend and the name evolved over hundreds of years, from the Dutch Sint Nikolaas to Sinterklaas to Santa Claus as we know him today.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there
Cement Clarke Moore
When my children were small, they’d always put their shoes out the night before St. Nicholas Day and sure enough there would be little gifts and candy left in them to be found in the morning. It was nice to have this small celebration to break the suspense building up to Christmas. It wouldn't be like Christmas morning but smaller gifts were given along with some sweet treats to settle their tummies.
I have some wonderful memories of those days. Traditions followed year after year turn into holidays of celebrations.
For me children do make the holidays brighter and if you’re a parent you know that your children will always remain your children in your heart, no matter how old they may get.
Today I’m staying at home once again and will view church services on line. Our virus numbers are still rising and I don’t go out unless I have to. I just have to remember that this isn’t going to last forever, nothing ever does. Yes, this too will pass and there are happier days coming .
I’ll be lighting the second candle in my Advent wreath today and saying a prayer that soon this will all be a thing of the past. God is the great physician and He can heal us and make us whole once more. Remember that !
I believe in miracles, especially at Christmas time !
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves.
St. Nicholas of Myra
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8708. for St. Nicholas, a giver of gifts
8709. for Advent, a time to prepare for Christmas
8710. for dinner in the fridge already to heat up. it’s my day to rest and relax.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why,
‘Cause Santa Claus is coming to town!

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Hope you all are on the Nice list ....
We celebrated St. Nicholas Day too when I was growing up. It was a fun tradition! I didn't do it with my kids though but I think my sister did with her children. Christmas through the eyes of a child is always fun! I bet this year will be so different in pictures taken with Santa at the mall, etc. I haven't gone to any malls since this all began. Not that I'm afraid to, just haven't had the need to go shopping in any. Do miss seeing the Christmas decorations though!
Have a great Sunday Ma!
betty
This reminds me of the many little things I did when my children were young leading up to Christmas. I miss those days. Have a beautiful Sunday Ma!
I'm reading the book Nicholas The Epic Journey From Saint to Santa Claus By Jeremy Seal.
Appropriate that I started it today!!
Merry Christmas!!!
What a sweet tradition! I hadn't planned on attending in-person services today, but it's the 39th anniversary of my father's untimely passing. I think he would have been disappointed in me, had I not gone.
I hope you enjoy a super new week!
