ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Repeal Day which is the anniversary of the day that the U.S. repealed the 18th Amendment, restoring the right to purchase and consume alcohol.
The 18th Amendment, which was ratified on January 16th, 1919, prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor thoughout the U.S. Prohibition led to wide disrespect of the law. New York City alone had about 30,000 speakeasies by 1927. Eventually, many influential and respected citizens including John D. Rockerfeller, Jr. came forward and organized a counter movement. The 21st Amendment ending Prohibition was ratified on December 5, 1933.
Repeal day is celebration of the balance of power in the United States and the end of the individual freedom that allows each citizen to choose whether or not to drink.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created qual; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that amount these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Thomas Jefferson
I’m not against drinking alcohol but do enjoy an occasional drink now and then. It’s the drinking and driving that I’m against. If you’re going to drink then you shouldn’t be driving. It’s always better to have a designated driver.
I support individual freedoms and believe we do have a right to choose what’s best for us. So I’m happy to have this day to celebrate.
My menu today is:
Slow Cooker Sausage Cassoulet
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 1.2 cups chopped onion
1 1/2 cups diagonally cut carrots
1 cup chopped peeled turnip
1/2 cup diced celery
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans , 15 oz., cannelini beans, rinsed and drained
2 links fully cooked sweet Italian chicken sausage, chopped
1 28 oz can diced tomatoes, undrained
3/4 cup chicken stock
2 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp butter
1/2 cup whole grain breadcrumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add oil to pan, swirl to coat. Add onion, carrots, turnip, and garlic. Cook 5 minutes until just tender.
If your sausage isn’t the fully cooked kind, sauté it along with the vegetables.
Place vegetable mixture in slow cooker. Add cannelloni beans, sausage, tomatoes, chicken stock, thyme, salt pepper and bay leaf. Cover and cook on low 8 hours or until vegetables are tender
Melt butter in a small skillet over medium. Add breadcrumbs, cook 3 minutes or until browned. stirring frequently . Remove pan from heat, stir in cheese. Stir half the mixture into cassoulet in slow cooker, sprinkle remaining crumb mixture and parsley over each serving.
This is good served with a leafy green salad and a knob of crusty whole grain bread.
This will be my dish to enjoy for the whole weekend. It will make plenty for 2 days for me. and will only be better heated up again.
With the snow here this week, it’s beginning to look like a lot like Christmas and that’s what the pictures are of today, more of my Christmas decorations.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Peace on Earth. Good will to all men.
Beautiful decorations Ma. I think a nice cocktail to celebrate the day would go very nicely with your Slow Cooker Sausage Cassoulet. I'm totally with you on the drinking and driving.
Most of all, I like your gold bell. :)
I can't say I never drove after having enjoyed adult beverages but thank my lucky stars nothing untoward ever occurred. (What's that they say about God protecting fools?) Sure wouldn't do it again!
Pretty decorations, Ma!! That does look like a great recipe with the sausage cassoulet. Another one I am copying out!
betty
Your decorations are old and I absolutely LOVE them.
