ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a special occasion!!

Today is National Candy Cane Day which gives candy lovers another day to celebrate the red and white striped candies found abundantly during the holidays.
In 1944 a recipe for a straight peppermint stick candy which was white with colored stripes was published, However some stories tell of all white sticks in much earlier times. Folklore tells of the origin of the can cane, yet no real documented proof of its real beginning. Literature begins mentioning the candy cane in 1866 the it was first known to be mentioned in connection with Christmas in 1874. As early as 1882, candy canes have been hung on Christmas trees.
To celebrate today enjoy one from your stocking or pluck one from the tree. Make sure to share a candy cane with a loved one in your life.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
One of the secrets of life is continuous small treats.

I always have candy canes leftover from Christmas and my favorite way to use them up is to crush them and then mix with a tub of cool whip. It makes a delicious dip for Piroulines, those cream filled wafers that look like a straw. It’s a quick and easy dessert to fix or a snack with your hot chocolate.
Today is when my family will be gathering and participating in a Zoom call. I’ll be going out to DD’s house for that. We’re also going to have a dinner of nothing but appetizers.
I’m taking sausage cheese balls to share and here is the recipe for them:
Sausage Cheese Balls
3 cups Bisquick Baking mix
1 lb. bulk pork sausage
4 cups shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 tsp parsley flakes
Barbecue sauce or chili, sauce, if desired
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease bottom and sides of a 15 by 20 inch pan. In a large bowl stir together all the ingredients except for barbecue sauce. Shape mixture into 1 inch balls and place in pan.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until brown, immediately remove from pan and serve warm with sauce for dipping.
We got more than a nice covering of snow here, almost a foot, and it’s been very cold out so the roads and walkways are slippery in spots. I don’t go out much but when I do, I’ve learned how to walk like a duck to prevent sliding around. It helps!
DSIL’s mom is doing good and resting much easier now that she is on a ventilator. So we’re hoping this allows her to heal. Her vitals are good and we’re very hopeful recovery is coming soon.
The pictures today are from DS#5 and family when they went to see the Zoo lights this past weekend. It was a winter Wonderland. However, this is not possible as I still cannot upload any new pictures, so the ones you are seeing are of candy cane pictures found in the picture archives on blogger.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!

Enjoy a tasty candy cane today ! Christmas wasn't meant to be for just one day.
At our church's Christmas Eve service they had a bowl of candy canes. I got one; might have it this afternoon :) I like the idea of your celebration with appetizers; we do that for some meals and its always fun to see what kind of appetizers we can find to eat :) Enjoy!

I love the idea of making a whole meal out of appetizers! Snack-food for grown-ups! So happy to hear your DSIL's mom is improving. Thank you, God.
I love appetizers so making a meal of them would suit me fine.
