ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR MONDAY, DECEMBER 28TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Card Playing Day which honors card games and all the fun you can have playing them. A playing card is a piece of special prepared heavy pape, thin cardboard, plastic coated paper, cotton paper blend or thin plastic, marked with distinguishing motifs and used as one of a set for playing card games. Playing cards are typically palm sized for convenient handing.
Countless card games exist, including families of related games such as poker. A small number of card games played with traditional decks have formally standardized rules, but most are folk games who’s rules vary by the region, culture, and person.
To celebrate today enjoy a game of cards with family and friends.Or even enjoy a game of solitaire by yourself.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the game.

It’s with a sad and heavy heart the I must tell you the news today. DSIl”s mom passed away on Sunday morning. It came as a shock to all of us. We were so hopeful she would get better. Sadly she didn’t win in the fight with the Covioid virus. Please keep the family in your prayers as they’ll be having a tough time coping with this devastating loss. They all loved their mom dearly. May she now rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon her. We can hope she is in a much better place where there is no sadness or pain, only joy.
I don’t know any thing else, sorry, only bad news for today. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it really shakes us up. Try to remember death is a part of life we will all go through so love the ones you have with you right now and never take life for granted.
We usually enjoy a good card game with the family on New Years when we gather for our dinner of pork roast and sauerkraut kraut. We play penny poker and have a game board to play on. It’s become a tradition over the years, but I’m thinking this year will be different as was Christmas. These pictures are a game of Go Fish. We’ll all be gathering for another Zoom call on New Years Eve this year. I’ll still be making dinner, only probably just for me, myself and I. If you feel brave enough to join me, there will be plenty to share.
For today on the menu is
Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes and Ham
Makes 8 servings
3 lbs. potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 cup chapped onion
1 cup chopped cooked ham
1 10.75 oz. can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Place sliced potatoes in slow cooker . In a medium bowl, mix together the shredded cheese, onion, and ham. Mix with potatoes in slow cooker. Using the same bowl mix together condensed soup and water. Season to taste with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour evenly over the potato mixture.
Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.
I didn’t have any shredded cheese so cut some slices up in cubes. Making do with what I have on hand. No need to run to the store, when I do have plenty of cheese on hand.
I’m just trying to make the most of each day as it comes and appreciate the gift of life, while I still have it. The pictures today are of a previous New Years card game and the folks that came to enjoy it.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It doesn’t matter what card you’re dealt. It’s what you do with those cards. Never complain. Just keep pushing forward. Find a positive in anything and just fight for it.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8768.for the gift of life while it lasts
8769.for plenty of leftover ham to use up
8770.for DSIL and his family, they are an extension of ours.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but of playing a poor hand well.

Card games are fun with family in the winter.
Again, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news.
Going out on a limb here, but I think loved ones' deaths seem especially painful when they happen around the holidays. (Speaking from experience.) Hold yourself -- and one another close. Hugs from across the miles.
I saw the news in the comments yesterday, I am so very sorry. I'm keeping the family in my prayers.
Again, so sorry about the loss of SIL's mom. So devastating to hear. Prayers continue for the family. I always find comfort in this psalm at times like this. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
I do enjoy card games :)
