ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day which is a day to wear your tackiest ugly Christmas sweater. Let your personal sense of fashion shine with a seater emblazoned with Rudolph’s face or a spirited Christmas phrase- the more over the top, the better.
Held on the third Friday in December, this fun filled holiday is the perfect way to kick off the season. Chevy Chase is sometimes credited with starting the ugly Christmas sweater trend, thanks to his role in National Lampoon’s Christmas vacation. While the sweaters began to go out of fashion in the 1990’s they surged back to popularity around 2001.
To celebrate, wear your favorite ugly Christmas sweater to the office, the store, or wherever today takes you. To really get into the spirit, you could host a party .
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Tis the season rock ugly sweaters all day, every day!

I have a lot of Christmas sweaters, but never really thought of them as ugly. Some are pretty, some are funny, some sparkle, some shine, but I don’t think any of them are ugly. I wear them all through the month of December.
One Christmas, several years ago, we decided to have a contest and voted on the best Christmas sweater and that is what the pictures are of today. DS#6 won the contest winner as he had sewn some Christmas garland on his own sweater. Most inventive for sure. That is what the pictures are of today.
This year we’ll be celebrating with a Zoom call to get the family together, so maybe it’d be nice for everyone to wear a Christmas sweater. I know I’ll have one of mine on.
Today is my day to cook again and on the menu is:
Eggs Benedict Casserole
Makes 12 servings
12 oz. packaged Canadian bacon, chopped
1 package whole wheat English muffins, spilt and cut into one inch pieces
10 eggs
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3 cups milk, divided
1/4 tsp paprika
3 tbsp. fresh parsley leaves
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 pinch cayenne pepper
2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
Place half of the Canadian bacon in a lightly greased 13 by 9 inch baking dish. Top with english muffin pieces, top with remaining Canadian bacon. Whisk together 8 eggs, garlic powder, salt and 2 cups of milk in a large bowl. Pour over the Canadian bacon mixture in baking dish; cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove casserole and let stand at room temperature while oven preheats. Remove plastic wrap and sprinkle casserole with paprika; bake in preheated oven until set. about 35 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley.
While casserole bakes , melt butter in a small saucepan . Cook, swirling pan until butter turns light golden; pour into a small bowl and set aside.
Whisk together buttermilk, cornstarch and cayenne pepper in a medium saucepan until smooth. Wisk in remaining 2 eggs and 1 cup milk. Cook over low heat whisking constantly until mixture comes to a simmer; cook whisking constantly 15 seconds. Remove from heat and whisk in lemon juice and reserved butter. Serve warm lemon butter sauce with the casserole.
This would probably be a good breakfast casserole too. But I’m having it for dinner along with a side of fruit salad. I’ll be cutting this recipe in half since it makes so much.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Truth: Ugly Christmas sweaters look better when we wear them together.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Have fun and wear a Christmas sweater today !
Such fun! Enjoy your yummy Eggs Benedict casserole this evening :)
I have my Christmas sweater on! I wear one every day in December! I've never considered them ugly either - but your son's came really close!! Hahaha! I love that you cook for yourself. I cook for two but we save our leftovers and I try not to waste food. There will be 14 here on Christmas Eve so I am going to have double some of my recipes!!
I never knew the origin of ugly Christmas sweaters! Makes sense, but I don't recall seeing any of those movies. Your DS#6 certainly thought outside the box!
Eggs Benedict-turned casserole sounds super. Since I'm not fond of Canadian bacon, now I'll have to think of something else that might lend itself to this dish.
Cute pictures of sweaters :) I don't have any Christmas sweaters and probably won't have any these years. Hubby had a collection of Christmas ties he would wear in December when he was working. Yum on that Eggs Benedict casserole. Going to make it for sure! Eggs Benedict is my favorite item to get when out for breakfast :)
betty
Love that first picture and who would have thought to sew on garland:)
