I’m so happy to be the age I am and to have lived all the years I have.  I’m thankful for all the wonderful experienced I’ve had .

Today is also International Women’s Day which was first celebrated in 1911.  More than one million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland attended rallies and events to campaign for women’s rights and gender discrimination.

Today this holiday gives us an occasion to recognize all of economic, political, and social achievements woman have accomplished throughout history.  In the fifteen countries where it is an official holiday, it is similar to Mothers Day.  People honor mothers, wives, friends and colleagues with flowers and small gifts.  

To celebrate today, show your support for women in your community and learn how you can help out.

I’m proud to be a woman and being a mother is the best thing that ever happened to me.  It’s my birthday and I’m celebrating today.  I don’t have any special plans but will treat myself well.  I’ve lived a nice long life, longer that I had thought I would and thanks to all the help from my family and doctors, am still doing pretty well.  I’ve been able to enjoy my retirement for several years now and am looking forward to the days ahead.

Women have accomplished a lot over the years.  We have more freedoms to do things than we ever did.  It is hard to believe that at one time we had no right to vote.  Now we can do it, even though some still don’t.  

It’s a shame not to use this right after all women did to get to that point in history.  We have the right to choose what career we will have and many do what men do, along with being in the military.  We still don’t earn as much as men do, but we will get there.  There was a time when women weren’t doctors or scientists, but that has certainly changed. If you are a woman, be proud of who and what you are !

The pictures today are from my birthday celebration last year when the kids took me out to Red Lobster.  They are supposed to be taking me out again on Saturday.
