ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FRIDAY, MARCH 18TH, 2022
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Quilting Day which celebrates quilts and this who make them . The National Qulting Association started this holiday in 1991. Their members passed a resolution in Lincoln Nebraska on June 1991.
A quilt is a type of bed cover, traditionally composed of 3 layers of fiber: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting or wadding and woven back, combined using the technique of quilting. A quilt is distinguishable form other types of blankets because it pieced together with several pieces of cloth. Quilting refers to the technique of joining a least two fabric layers by stitches or ties.
To celebrate today you could piece together your own quilt or wrap up in one that someone else made. They are comfy and warm.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We stitch together quilts of meaning to keep us warm and safe, with whatever patches of beauty and utility we have on hand.

I have several quilts made by my grandmother and I have quilt tops she pieced together that are stored in my cedar chest. I’ve tried for several years to quilt one of them and that is what my pictures are of today.
She saved scraps of material and made a quilt for all of her family. She often took old clothing and made quilt pieces from them. One of my favorites has pieces of the first dress I made.
I only have a large hoop that holds my quilt together and I’m quilting it by hand. She had a large quilting frame that was set up in the dinning room. Many of the finished ones she gave away were done by machine. She would put them together and send them off for someone else to quilt. She found someone that did it reasonably and mailed them off to be finished. The one I had that was finished, I gave to my daughter. They wear well and last for years.
It’s my day to cook up something new, although it’s not an Irish dish
Tuna Casserole with Peas
Makes 6 servings
12 oz whole wheat egg noodles
2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
3 cans water packed chunk light tuna, drained and flaked
1 onion, finely chopped
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup plain dried breadcrumbs
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat a baking dish with cooking spray. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Cook noodles in the pot of boiling water according to package directions. Drain and rinse under cold running water. Transfer to a large bowl.
Add mushroom soup, tuna, onion and peas to the noodles.Stir until combined. Scrape the mixture into the prepared baking pan.
Combine the breadcrumbs and cheese in a medium bowl; sprinkle over the casserole.
Bake until bubbly and lightly browned. About 25 minutes.
Serving size is about 1 1/3 cups
I only add 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and add one can of milk to mine. I also cut the amount of tuna to one can.
This will make plenty for me for today and tomorrow for lunch too.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!!

Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Families are like old quilts
Although they tend to unravel at times…
each can be stitched back together
with love.

Anything hand made is a gift from the heart!
Oh shucks, most of my childhood is surrounded by quilts, scraps, and a quilting frame pulled high toward the ceiling, or lowered for work and I could play under it. Yes life is like a quilt,,,,,
Love from down here in the sun

I'm afraid I've neither the talent nor the discipline necessary to make a quilt. That doesn't stop me from drooling over those made by the church's quilting group. My son and I each have ones handmade by my mother which we treasure!
PS - I like the colors you've chosen for yours.
