ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 30TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Happy Birthday to you ♥
Today is also Arbor Day which has been celebrated since 1872. A journalist named J. Sterling Morton created this holiday to encourage people to plant trees and to raise awareness about the importance of forests and plants. The first Arbor Day took place in the state of Nebraska and local newspapers estimated that one million trees were planted that day.
Today Arbor Day is a worldwide celebration. People traditionally celebrate this holiday by volunteering their time to plant trees or donate] money to preserve forests. Many schools typically plan a variety of Arbor Day activities like essay contests, art projects, field trips to local parks to get kids engaged in this important campaign.
To celebrate today, plant a tree in your yard or send greetings to family and friends.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This grandson lives out of state so I don’t get to see him often and as usual I’l be lighting my birthday candle and thinking about him today. He has always brightened my life with his wonderful smile that’s why I nicknamed him Sunshine Boy. I hope he has a wonderful birthday filled with love and lots of birthday wishes come true.
I can hardly remember a time we didn’t celebrate Arbor Day with planting trees. The parks department in our town always passed out baby trees for the children to plant. My yard used to be covered with them when my own children were young. They’d each plant one and so that made a lot of little trees in the yard. I’d have to be really careful not to mow them down when cutting the grass.
Now I’m blessed with a wonderful big tree in my yard, and I’m very thankful for it and the person that planted it. It’s quite old now and towers over most of the trees around here. It gives me shade in the summer and delight in the fall when it changes color. It houses birds and squirrels which also give me plenty of entertainment when I sit in the sun room and watch them.
I can’t say enough good about trees. They are so important in our lives. They even purify the air we breath.
On the menu for today is:
Naked Fish Tacos
Makes 2 servings
1 cup coleslaw mix
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 green onion, sliced
1 tsp. chopped jalopeno pepper
4 tsp. oil divided
2 tsp lime juice
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt, divided
1/4 tsp. pepper, divided
2 tilapia fillets
1/2 ripe avocado, peeled and sliced
Place the first 4 ingredients in a bowl, toss with 2 tsp. oil, lime juice, cumin, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper .Refridgeratae until serving.
Pat fillets dry with paper towels, sprinkle with remaining salt and pepper. In a large nonstick skillet, heat remaining oil over medium high heat; cook tilapia until fish just begins to flake easily with a fork. 3 to 4 minutes per side. Top with slaw and avocado. This is also good served with fresh melon as a side. I didn’t used the jalapeño pepper as I don’t like anything too spicy. The cumin provides enough spice for me.
We’re to be in the 50’s today with another chance of rain, but on the bright side they say we’ll warm up in the 70’s by Sunday. Our roller coaster weather continues for another week.
I hope you have a FANTASTIC Friday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Happy 😀 Birthday 🥳
Happy birthday to your Sunshine Boy! Enjoy those yummy tacos tonight Ma. :)
I love all the photos today and happy birthday to your Sunshine Boy!!!
We have planted two trees so far down at the ranch. Both were gifted to us and they both survived the Arctic Freeze we had. One is a Chinese Elm for the family that used to live next door. They moved and left the tree to us as it was in a huge pot. We took it to the ranch and planted it deep and well over by our little pond area. It is thriving! My sister Nita's next door neighbor is a master gardener and gave us a fig tree for the ranch. It, too, has done surprisingly well! You will not ne happy to learn that Louis Dean - when we first married and in that honeymoon stage - cut down a row of white crepe mystrles that lined my driveway. WHY?? He didn't like them. I did but I let him cut them down anyway. They are stubborn things and kept trting to come back. I quit pulling them up and now I have two small but healthy ones in the bed along the driveway and have intsructed Louis Dean to leave them alone!!
I am still mourning over our huge elm tree dying next to the gazebo. The trunk still stands, but we should probably take that down now, too.
Summer is coming so I am loving every single minute of the SPRING!!!!
Happy Birthday to your Sunshine Boy!
Yes, I remember tree-planting ceremonies. 🙂 Sadly, with all the storms, many are needing to be taken down to save homes and cars. I thought about buying a magnolia, but decided instead to enjoy the one at nearby Village Green.
TQ for visiting. This is the first time I have read about a tree planting day. It is a brilliant project as tress offer not only shade but life to planet Earth. Lovely family photographs and blessings for the family
