ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 9TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Cherish an Antique Day which is a day to polish them up and put them on display. Humans have been collecting antiques since the beginning of history. We have always been fascinated by the stories behind theses curiosities and the rare glimpse they give us into the live of our predecessors.
1n 1979 the first episode of the Antique Roadshow aired in the United Kingdom. Local residents presented their family heirlooms and collections for appraisal and learned their true value. The show was an instant success and is still in production today. On the American version of the show, the most valuable find to day was a set of carved rhinoceros horn cups, which were appraised at $1-1.5 million.
To celebrate today learn the story behind your favorite antique and share the talk with family and friends. Happy antiquing.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Most everything in my house is old, but not are all antiques. The really old things I have that qualify are treasures, but not really valuable to anyone but me. I have an antique clock that sits on my buffet, which itself is and antique, but it’s meant to be a mantle clock which used to be very popular in many homes. The buffet was found in the basement of a friend and DDH brought it home for me knowing we had the perfect place to put in the dining room. It was a freebie and needed refinishing which never got done. I simply keep it well polished with some lemon oil.
The mantle clock was a gift from my parents to us on one of our wedding anniversaries. They had purchased it an an auctions and had it on the mantle of their fireplace. Knowing that we liked it, they decided to give it away to us.
I also have an old quilt that was made by my grandmother years ago. She’d given it to my mom who in turn gave it to me. It’s hand stitched but not hand quilted. She made so many quilts that she often sent them off to someone who would machine quilt them. She wanted everyone in the family to be able to have one of her quilts. I also have a hand stitched quilt top that is tucked away in my cedar chest that was made by her. It’s waiting for me to put it together and quilt it. It’ may have a very long wait.
Since I’m now 78, lots of things in my house qualify as antiques and I’m good at keeping things I treasure. It would be nice to know the story behind all of them, but I only know about the ones I bought myself like the antique Christmas ornament I’ve had since we first got married and it plays jingle bells when you pull the cord on it.
The pictures today are of a few of my antiques. Enjoy !
Today is my day to cook and as usual for Friday, I’m doing a seafood dish.
Salmon and Asparagus with Lemon Garlic Butter Sauce
Makes 4 servings
1 lb. center cut salmon filet cut into 4 portions
1 lb asparagus, trimmed
1/2 tsp salt
1 .2 tsp pepper
3 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp. lemon zest
1 tbsp lemon juice
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat a large rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray.
Place salmon on one side of prepared pan and asparagus on the other . Sprinkle salmon and asparagus with salt and pepper.
Heat butter, oil, garlic, and lemon juice in a small skillet over medium heat until butter is melted. Drizzle the butter mixture over salmon and aspargus. Bake until salmon is cooked through and asparagus is just tender, about 15 minutes.
I’ll be having this with a side of sweet potatoes and coleslaw.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!!

Antiques make great collections, and I have many.
I love hearing about and seeing your treasures. I remember my mother having one of those bells too but I have no idea what ever happened to it. Enjoy you yummy dinner this evening and have a beautiful weekend! :)
I LOVE salmon but have never tried making it for fear of under-cooking. This certainly sounds easy, and I appreciate your mention of how long at what temp. We've a bag of salmon filets in the freezer and I may just try baking a couple in the air fryer.
Like you, I've some vintage stuff that's most likely not valuable to anyone but myself. Priceless!
