ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 18TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Animal Cracker Day which honors the tasty crackers that are usually shipped in the shape of an animal. These fun little creatures are usually in the shape of circus or zoo animals such as elephants, lions, tigers and monkeys.
Animal shaped crackers were first brought to the United States during the late 1800’s. The demand for these treats skyrocketed so bakers began to produce them domestically.
Stauffer’s Biscuit Company was the first company to produce them.in 1871 in York Pennsylvania. Other local bakeries some came together under the National Biscuit Company, or Nabisco Brands. It was not until 1902 though that the animal cracker box debuted its Barnum’s Animal circus theme.
Since 1902 there have been 37 different animals included in Barnum’s Anical Crackers. Today more than 40 million packages of animal crackers are sold year around the world.
To celebrate today enjoy a box or two of some delicious Animal Crackers!
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Animal crackers in my soup,
Monkeys and rabbits loop the loop…
Sung by Shirley Temple, 1935
Over the years we’ve enjoyed many boxes of animal crackers here at my house . They’ve been a favorite with all the small children in our family. I always kept some on hand to share with them, but not so much any more. Their tastes have developed and most like other cookies better than these old time classics. Our little ones are all grown up now, but I bet they all remember the boxes of animal crackers they used to eat. They really are not just for children, but adults can enjoy them too. They make a good snack. The term animal cracker and animal cookie is interchangeable. The term animal cracker, however is not a brand name, but refers to a type of snack.
Nabisco’s Animal Crackers used to come in a familiar red box with what looks like a circus train full of colorful animals. Now however, the animals are now shown wandering side by side in a grassland They provide a link to childhood, one never entirely grows out of . So today I’ll enjoy eating and learning about animal crackers. They are suppose to be a healthy and nutritious snack. Not as sweet as a cookie and low in fat.
The pictures today are of a Zoo visit by DS#5 and 6 and families, not of animal crackers.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
People forget the good that zoos do. If it weren’t for zoos, we would have so many species that would be extinct today.

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Great memories of their childhood days ....
National animal cracker day...who would have known. Interesting info on the company and the history.
It just now dawned on me while reading this that it's been a long time since I've seen animal crackers in the little circus wagon boxes. I suppose those must be long gone now.
I used to love Animal Crackers! Now I'm a little sad to learn they've changed the circus wagon theme. I suppose 'new and improved' (change) is the name of the game in marketing these days, but I wish people would just leave well alone. Ya, I'm just old and set in my ways. LOL.
I remember animal crackers! I still buy them from time to time. They make good little snacks.
I remember the small boxes you could buy with a circus scene on the front and a white string handle so you could carry them around.
Love how you can stir up sweet memories with your posts!
Wishing a good week. Louis Dean has gone to Home Depot to buy plumbing materials before we go down to the ranch. He thinks it will be easier to simply start all over rather than continuing to repair things over and over!
