ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
SATURDAY, AUGUST 28TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Cherry Turnover Day which celebrates a delicious pastry that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert. They originated in ancient times are are classified as portable pies. Other dishes in this culinary family inclusde Pasties, empanadas and spring rolls.
A traditional cherry turnover recipe calls for puff pastry, which is stuffed with a gooey cherry filling. and then baked until golden brown . There are many variations on this classic. Some recipes call for cream cheese, extra lemon juice or even ice cream.
To celebrate today bake your own home made cherry turnovers to share and enjoy. Bon Appetit!
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Your life should always come with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
A.D. Posey
I love turnovers and cherry ones are good. I have all the ingredients to make some today so I’ll be celebrating. I do an easy version using crescent rolls.
Quick Cherry Turnovers
Makes 4 servings
1 tube refrigerator crescent rolls
1 cup cherry pie filling
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1 to 2 tbsp. milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Unroll crescent dough and separate into four rectangles. Place on a ungreased baking sheet. Press perforations to seal. Place 1/4 cup pie filling on each one half of each triangle. Fold dough over filling, pinch edges to seal. Balake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden
Place confectioners sugar in a small bowl, stir enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over turnovers and serve warm.
Saturdays are also my day to cook for the weekend And on the menu today is:
Slow Cooked Bavarian Pot Roast
Makes 10 Servings
2 tbsp. oil
1 boneless beef chuck roast, 3 lbs
1 1/4 cups water
3/4 cup beef broth
1 can, 8 oz., tomato sauce
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp white vinegar
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp ginger
In dutch oven, heat oil, brown roast on all sides. Meanwhile combine water, tomato sauce, onion, sugar, vinegar, salt, cinnamon, bay leaf, pepper and ginger. Pour over meat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat cover and simmer until meat is tender. 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
Remove meat and slice. Discard bay leaf. If desired thicken pan juices for gravy.
My roast is only 2 lbs and the will make more than enough for me. I’ll still have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. I’m having this with a side of corn on the cob and some premade potato salad.
It’s still hot here but I was hungry for a roast. This could also be made in a crock pot to save heating up the kitchen. Besides the leftover roast will make for some good sandwiches for lunch during the week.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Life is like a cocktail, made up for the most part of sweet things, and tinged with a dash of bitters. We must drain it to the dregs to get at the cherry, just as we must live a full and rounded life to know all the pleasures.
Edgar Guest
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Life is just a bowl of cherries, don’t take it serious, it’s mysterious. Life just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh and laugh at love. Love a laugh and laugh and love.
Bob Fosse
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
