ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Coast Guard Day which honors the military branch that protects our waters and shorelines. The term Coast Guard wasn’t used until 1915, This branch of the military originated on August 4th, 1790 and was originally referred to as the Revenue Cutters. More than two hundred years later we celebrate all the Coast Guard has done to protect our country.
Grand Haven, Michigan is known as Coast Guard City, USA. Historically this town’s celebration has become famous for it’s large commemoration of the Coast Guard.
To celebrate today, take some time to appreciate the men and women of the Coast Guard and decorate your windows, doors or porch with patriotic colors.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I can image no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this center what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction. I served in the United States Navy.
John F. Kennedy
I appreciate all branches of the military and pray for them daily. They are the unsung heroes of our country. The Coast Guard is something we hear about regularly here as I live close to Lake Erie. They often rescue people having trouble on the water in their boats. If someone is missing they’ll search the waters until they’re found. The pictures today were found on line, but we do have a Coast Guard Station not far away where we can visit.
Today is my day to cook and on the menu is:
Chicken Ranch Flatbreads
Makes 4 servings
4 whole wheat or white pita breads, 6 inches
2 cups chopped cooked chicken breast
1/4 cup ranch salad dressing
2 plum tomatoes thinly sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
4 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1 tsp dried oregano
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Place pita breads on a large baking sheet 12 minute or until lightly browned. Meanwhile in a bowl toss chicken with dressing.
Top pitas with tomatoes and chicken mixture; sprinkle with cheese crumbled bacon and oregano. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until cheese is melted
One of these will make a delicious dinner for me and I’ll probably have it with a serving of oven fried sweet potatoes done in my air fryer making them crispy and delicious.
It’s also my day to go grocery shopping so I’ve made up a menu to do my shopping from.
Menu for next week is:
Monday - Easy Taco Pizza
Wednesday - Beef Chimicangas
Friday -Garden Fresh Grilled Veggie Pizza
Weekend - Chicken Parmesan Burgers
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
This will remain the land of the free so long as it is the home of the brave.
Elmer Davis
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
9411. For the Coast Guard and all branches of our military
9412. for a quick and easy dinner
9413. for beautiful summer weather
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

It's a day to show appreciation for our Coast Guard.
It was nice to be reminded of the coast guard. Here in the desert we do not hear much about them.
Like your other commenter, here in the South we don't often hear about the Coast Guard. What a debt of gratitude we owe all our service men and women!
