ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FRIDAY, AUGUST 6TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Root Beer Float Day which is an opportunity to float a scoop of vanilla ice cream in an ice cold mug of frothy root beer. The classic beverage creates a creamy treat loved by generations.
Also known as a Black Cow, the root beer float got it’s start in Colorado in a mining camp. Frank J Wisner of Cripple Creek gets the credit for inventing the Black Cow way back in August of 1893. One night he was staring out the window and thinking about a line of soda waters he was producing for the citizens of Cripple Creek when he came upon the idea . The fool moon that night shinned on the snow capped Cow Mountain and reminded him of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. He hurried back to his bar and scooped a spoonful of ice cream into the children’s favorite flavor of soda, Myers Avenue Red Root Beer. After trying, he liked it and served it the very next day. It was an immediate hit. Wisner named the new creation, Black Cow.Mountain, but the locals shortened the name to Black Cow.
Since it’s inception, hundreds of thougsands of root beer floats have been enjoyed around the country each day.
To celebrate today, gather up some root beer and ice cream and nix up the perfect root beer float. Enjoy !
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
My point of view is this: If you like root beer floats so much, have one on Monday, another on Tuesday and a third on Wednesday.
Dean Koontz
I happened to get to enjoy a root beer float not long ago when I went out to eat with DS#5 and his wife. They made a good one and I loved it all. The ice cream and root beer where very good mixture. It’s a good way to cool off, and is one of my favorite summertime drinks.
It’s hard to believe it’s Friday again. This was a very fast week. While I may not have got a lot done, at least I did get a little bit done which is better than nothing.
I’m slow and still working on my project of getting the spare bedroom cleaned up. I’ve gotten out most of summertime clothing and now it’s almost time to put them away and get out things for fall. But not yet, we still have some very hot and humid weather coming our way. Maybe by the end of September I’ll finally get this project done. It’s an on going project that never seems to end.
It’s Friday and my day to cook again and on the menu is:
Fish Stick Sandwiches
Makes 6 servings
1/4 cup butter melted
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 pkg. frozen breaded fish sticks
2 tbsp. mayonaises
6 hot dog buns split.
Shredded lettuce, chopped onion and chopped tomatoes, optional
In shallow bowl, combine butter and lemon juice. Dip fish sticks in the mixture. Place in a single layer on an ungreased baking pan.
Bake at 400 for 15 to 18 minutes or until crispy. Spread mayonaise on bottom of buns, add fish sticks. Top with lettuce, onion and tomato if desired. Replace bun tops
I like to put a slice of cheese on my bun before adding the fish sticks, so it will melt from the heat of the crispy sticks. This will make a satisfying meal for me.
It’s a hot and humid summer day made for simple sandwich meals.
If I get some root beer, I may even enjoy a float for dessert too.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Firiday!

When it's hot and humid in the summer, it's a great time to enjoy a root beer float.
Our high school cafeteria made the best fish sticks!
Love this backstory about the root beer floats. It was on a trip to Denver my father took me to an ice cream shop and introduced me to a Black Cow.
Happy Friday!
Haven't had a root beer float in forever and loved that last picture!
