The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Punch Day! The word punch allegedly comes from the Hindustani word, panch, which means five. In the early 1600s, sailors and employees of the British East India Company brought a new exotic drink from India to England. The beverage was made with five ingredients—spirits, lemon, sugar, water, and tea.
The recipe for punch spread from country to country and became one of the most popular party drinks in the world. Today there are hundreds of different punch recipes. Many of them still incorporate the five key ingredients.
Punch is served in a large bowl called a punch bowl. In 17th and 18th century Europe, punch bowls were a common household item. Many bowls came with ornate stands and were passed down as heirlooms.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Double, double toil and trouble
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
William Shakespeare
When I got married I received not only one but two punch bowls for gifts. Now I have just one, but over the years it has had plenty of use. When ever there has been a special occasion celebrated here at my house, I make punch. For years and years I’d fill the bowl with a combination of cranapple juice, ginger ale with scoops of sherbet floating on the top. When you give this mixture a little stir, it all froths up and we call it frothy slosh.
At one of our family gatherings DS#3 tried making it in a pitcher instead of a punch bowl and it frothed over the sides and all over and that is shown in the pictures today. It’s better to use a bowl.
I found a fall punch recipe to share that might be perfect for a Halloween party. You can serve it hot or cold. The perfect drink for Autumn!
Apple Pie Punch
1 apple, sliced
1 quart apple cider
2 cups pear nectar
24 ounces ginger ale
Combine apple cider, pear nectar, and ginger ale. Stir well. Place apple slices inside pitcher. Pour over ice and serve! If you're wanting to serve it warm, heat all of the liquid ingredients in a pot over a stove on low heat. Simmer for a few minutes until warm, place apple slices in the pot, and serve in mugs.
With fall beginning the holidays will quickly be rolling in so it’s time for me to get the punch bowl out and cleaned up for the celebrations that will be coming our way.
We had a little rain yesterday and they say there is the odd chance of a shower today too, but not much. I did have to turn the air conditioning on here but the sun is just not as hot as it was earlier in the summer. We’re to be mid 80’s for a few days yet.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Pepperoni Pizza Day, a day to celebrate America's favorite variety of pizza.. Almost everybody loves pizza. It is so versatile. Pizza is eaten for breakfast, often cold, for lunch, dinner, and as a late night snack. It is a very popular food for parties and events.
You can put all sorts of meats, vegetables, fruits, and even fish, Anchovies, on your pizza. But, today, is reserved for a pepperoni pizza, the most popular variety.
One of the easiest ways I know of to make a personal size pizza is to use English Muffins. The recipe shown below is for one but you can make as many as needed by multiplying the ingredients to suit your needs.
English Muffin Personal Pizza
1 English Muffin
4 tbsp pizza sauce
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella or monterey jack cheese
Choice of Toppings: Thinly sliced green pepper, onion, mushrooms, pitted ripe olives, pineapple tidbits, pepperoni, crumbled cooked sausage, diced smoked turkey
Split the English Muffin. Spread 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce on each muffin half and sprinkle with cheese; add desired toppings. Place on baking sheet and bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.

Louis Dean and I are here visiting with you again this morning. We can always count on you to boost our spirits and remind us to have courage!
Punch is such a great thing to drink at celebrations indeed. I didn't realize what the 5 components of a typical punch might include. Interesting! Yum on pepperoni pizza day! Wonder if pizza restaurants will be extra busy today because of it?
