ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Felt Hat Day, which is when men traditionally wear a felt hat. Women can participate in this day, too. They just have to have a felt hat.
Back in the early to mid 1900s, hats were popularly worn by both men and women. It was stylish. At that time, felt was a common material for men's hats. With cooler Fall weather approaching, the guys went to the coat closet and dusted off their felt hats , and began to wear them once more.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Hats make people feel good, and that's the point of them.
Philip Treacy
The hat in the first picture is hanging in my living room. I hung it up when I got the fall decorations out. But there is certainly no need for a felt hat here as it has warmed back up into the high 70’s. The long range forecast says that for the next week we’re to stay that way. I do have a couple of hats that I like to wear when it gets cold, but more than not I just pull up the hood on my coat, if I need to stay warm.
Last week we had some chilly nights with temps down into the 40’s so it’s really nice to have some warmer days for awhile yet. It won’t be long until we get colder again and stay that way, so I’m happy to see some summer weather return our way.
DD gave me some nice tomatoes from their garden so I’m still enjoying some fresh vegetables for a while yet. They’ll keep producing till the frost hits them. I’ll really miss them when they are gone.
It’s been a quiet but busy week here as I endeavor to work on my projects in between the usual housekeeping and yard work. Today marks 100 days until Christmas and my projects take on a Christmas theme in earnest.
The leaves from my neighbors tree have started to fall but the mower will mulch up the ones that have blown into my yard at this point. The trees on either side of my house are still green though. I still haven’t taken the time to get out and take pictures of the changing leaves around here yet, but will do that soon. It is beginning to look quite colorful.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
Acorn Squash
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Cheese Toast Day which to is a day to enjoy the cheesy goodness of this classic dish. Cheese toast is a delicious thick slice of bread spread with butter and cheese, then toasted until it is browned and crispy.
By the way, the picture above is acorn squash that I baked in the oven when it was cooler early this week. I covered it with brown sugar and butter and it was delicious.
Cheese Toast
2 cups grated Cheddar Cheese
2 cups grated Monterey Jack
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup Parmesan
4 tablespoons butter,softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 crusty loaf of French Bread
In medium bowl, combine Cheddar, Monterey Jack, mayonnaise, Parmesan, butter, salt, pepper and seasoned salt.
Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise, then into thirds or fourths. Evenly spread the cheese mixture onto the bread pieces. Wrap each piece in foil, leaving a little roam at the top between the cheese and the foil.
Place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Makes 6 servings
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Take some time to reflect on life's glorious gifts and mysteries.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5257. for hats that keep you warm when it’s cold
5258. for toast and cheese, a delicious combination
5259. for warmer days, perhaps Summer’s last hurrah
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Scarves, mittens, and hats are a great way to express your personality in the cold weather.

100 days before Christmas, wow! Cooling down here a bit too. Supposed to be under 100 degrees today!

That squash looks scrumptious!
My dad was rarely without a hat ... most often, his felt fedora. And for a while, my mother was 'into' making her own felt hats. How well I remember them being steamed on a head 'form', and the feathers she'd affix for accent. I'm a bit sad, wondering why there were no photos taken of her creations or what became of them.
