ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Skyscraper Day which takes place on September 3rd because that is Louis H. Sullivan's birthday, the architect credited with the first skyscrapers. Because of Sullivan's remarkable accomplishments in design and construction at such a critical point in architectural history, he has sometimes been described as the father of the American skyscraper. In truth, many architects had been building skyscrapers before or contemporarily with Sullivan.
A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building of many storys, usually designed for office and commercial use. One common feature of skyscrapers is having a steel framework that supports curtain walls.
Today, skyscrapers are an increasingly common sight where land is expensive, as in the centers of big cities, because they provide such a high ratio of rentable floor space per unit area of land. Not only do they define the skyline, they help to define the city's identity. In some cases, exceptionally tall skyscrapers have been built not out of necessity, but to help define the city's identity and presence or power as a city

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves.
Julia Morgan
Our small town has a couple of buildings which are taller than the others around them, but I don’t think of them as skyscrapers. I have been to some large cities where the buildings are a lot taller and do define them. There are many famous skyscrapers around the world like the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Empire State building in New York. I’ve never been to either of them.
I’m basically a small town girl, but because of my large family I’ve visited some large cities and that is what is shown in the pictures today.
It’s looking like a quiet weekend here at my house and I’m hoping to at least get the fall decorations out. I have noticed that there are few trees starting to change color here so need to get some pictures of those to share too.
It’s been chilly here but today and tomorrow are to be warmer. After that the temps are going to drop back down again into the 60’s again for a while. Summer is fast fading.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Welsh Rarebit Day! Welsh rarebit is toast with hot cheese poured over it. This is one recipe I’ve never fixed but I do love toasted cheese.
BAKED WELSH RAREBIT
4 slices white bread
8 slices American cheese
2 lg. eggs, beaten
2 tbsp. prepared mustard
1 c. milk
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Paprika or minced fresh parsley for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread slices in large shallow casserole or baking pan; do not overlap slices. Place 2 slices cheese on each slice of bread. Combine remaining ingredients except garnish; mix well. Pour on top of cheese and bread. Bake 25 minutes. Garnish with paprika or parsley or some other fresh herb you may like, minced or chopped up. Makes 4 servings.

That coffee flavor sounds delicious! Hard to imagine cooler temps are happening elsewhere. We are still over 100 degrees these days.

Interesting back-story about skyscrapers.
When we used to drive over to Dallas, I'd look forward to seeing its pretty skyline come into view. Then - almost 20 years later - when Tom and I changed planes in Dallas' Love Field I saw those unmistakable skyscrapers again and just teared up. :)
Pretty to look at, but ever since I saw the Towering Inferno so many years ago, I've not wanted to office or live in one. One of my managers - a former paramedic - says she'll never stay in a hotel room higher than what the firefighters' ladders can extend.
