ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is World Heart Day which is part of an international campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention. Overeating, lack of exercise, unhealthy diets and high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels are all factors which can trigger heart disease and threaten our own lives, and those of loved ones. Heart Day was set up to drive home the message that heart problems can be prevented.
The aim is to improve health globally by encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and promoting education internationally about ways to be good to your heart. This lesson is becoming increasingly relevant as reports of obesity, poor diet and physical inactivity in children and young people become more and more common.
So on Heart Day, get involved, eat your fruit and veg and get outside; both you and your heart will feel the benefits.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When your heart speaks, take good notes.
Judith Campbell
Thankfully I don’t have heart trouble and am for my age relatively healthy, but I really do not exercise enough and I probably eat more than my fair share of sweets. There is definitely room for improvement in my lifestyle.
The thing is that there is more than one kind of heart trouble. Broken hearts, cheating hearts, and lonely hearts abound. On the bright side there are those with cheerful hearts, willing hearts and loving hearts that help us each day.
They say that the heart of the matter, is the matter of the heart.
It has really cooled down here and this morning we have an unbelievable 46 degrees. They say it will warm up to 70 today with a chance of rain later on. I’m hoping to get out to do a little shopping as I saw a few ads in the paper that looked pretty good. Save a Lot has chicken breast for 99 cents a pound and Round Roast for 2.99 a pound…we’ll see.
Thankfully I was able to find a few pictures of hearts to share today with you all. Everyone has one but we don’t see it. The most beautiful things in life are not seen but felt only by heart.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Coffee Day
Over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year. It is a world commodity that is second only to oil. Don't forget to take a coffee break or two today to celebrate this important beverage!
I do love my coffee and make it in my Keurig, one cup at a time these days. I love the convenience and the variety of coffee K cups there are to choose from. I think I’ve tried them all.
In honor of the day I’m sharing an old fashioned coffee cake recipe. Serve it for breakfast or as a mid afternoon dessert with a cup of coffee.
Sunday Morning Coffee Cake
2 Tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
2/3 cup milk
1teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter
Beat butter, sugar and salt in a small bowl until crumbly. Add the egg, milk and vanilla; mix well. Combine flour and baking powder; add to butter mixture. Transfer to a greased 8 inch square baking dish.
For topping, in a small bowl, combine the sugar, flour and cinnamon; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Serve warm if desired. Yield: 9 servings.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
All that is worth cherishing begins in the heart.
Suzanne Chapin
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5299. For loving hearts that care
5300. for coffee and something sweet to go with it
5301. for holidays that remind us to take care of ourselves
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

I think a lot of us are guilty of not eating right and not getting enough exercise. I know I need to move my body more. I did stop drinking coffee about a month ago. Haven't really missed it.

And wish for you a beautiful Friday! We're sitting in the gazebo and the AC is off in the house but we are a good 20 degrees warmer than your morning temperatures! Light rain makes today especially nice!
Two of my favorites things: hearts and coffee! Those are good prices on chicken and roast. I would stock up! Both good for winter cooking!!
It's a good thing I think of laughter as exercise for the insides, because that's just about the only regular exercise I get. (Unless you count doing diddly squats, jumping to conclusions, and blog hopping...)
It's still warm here. Over ninety degrees yesterday, and I suspect it was the same today. But I'm sure autumn will be here any minute now...
Heart disease is something near and dear to my own heart. That said, one would think I'd do a better job of moving about. :(
Coffee is so wonderful. I, too, love our Keurig. Yesterday was a 3-podder!
