ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
MONDAY, APRIL 18TH, 2022
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is The Boston Marathon which is the oldest annual marathon and one of the most prestigious road racing events. People from all over the world come to Boston to run and watch this historic race. Each year more than 30,000 participants race and more than 500,000 people attend to watch and cheer on the runners on. It is the second biggest single day sporting event in the U.S. only behind the Super Bowl.
The Boston Athletic Association founded the Boston Marathon in 1897. The race takes place on the 3rd Monday of April which is also a holiday known as Patriots Day in Massachusetts and Maine. Boston was the first major marathon to have a wheelchair division and in 2007 it unitiated a wave start. The marathon has distinguished itself as one of the top road races because of it’s traditions, longevity and qualifications to enter the race.
In order to run in the Boston marathon, one must compete in different approved marathons within a certain time period and must beat specified time based on gender and age
Just receiving entry into the Marathon is a huge honor. Although the Boston Marathon is celebrated as a unifying and joyous event, it should also be considered as a time to grieve for those who were impacted by the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.
Please join us as we keep the families and communities that were affected by the fateful events in 2013 in our thoughts today.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You can run a sprint or you can run a marathon, but you can’t sprint a marathon.
Ryan Holmes
This event is one I’ll be watching on TV. It’s amazing to see the strength and endurance of these runners. I wish them much luck and do remember the sad event in 2013 and keep all those affected in my prayers.
We are still very cold here today but they say by mid week we will once again be warming up. I had a wonderful Easter Sunday and enjoyed the day.
The only thing that would have made it better is if it had been warmer. But there is nothing we can do about the weather. I’m getting anxious for Spring weather to begin here.
It’s my day to cook up something new here although I do have plenty of leftovers. On the menu is :
Use It Up Vegetable Soup
Makes 4 servings
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
6 cups raw vegetables
4 cups vegetable broth, plus more if needed
1 potato or white sweet potato, chopped
1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1/2 tsp salt
1 bay leaf
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/‘8 tsp. ground pepper
Chopped fresh herbs such as basil, dill and or parsley for garnish
Grated Parmesan cheese for serving.
Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Add onion and cook, stirring frequently about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Add vegetables, broth, potato, oats, salt and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium low, cover and simmer, stirring occassionally until vegetables smash easily when pressed against the side of the pot. About 40 minutes.
Discard bay leaf. Puree the soup in pot with an immersion blender. Add lemon juice, nutmeg, cayenne and pepper. Thin with additional broth if desired. Garnish with herbs and cheese, if desired
The vegetables I’ll be using will be carrots and celery but you can use what ever you have on hand
The only running pictures I have today are of the grand babes running around looking for Easter eggs. so that is what you are seeing today. These were taken in 2018.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift
Steve Prefontaine
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
10,165 for runners that persevere and win the race.
10,166. for a new week and another chance to get it right.
10,167. for my family and all they do.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Life is often compared to a marathon, but I think it is more like being a sprinter, long stretches of hard work punctuated by brief moments in which we are given the opportunity to perform at our best.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Life is like a marathon.
I am a fan of vegie soup. This one sounds great. Yes we remember the bombing, of course it brought the Marathon to the front of world news. But that is definitely NOT what is desired for attention.
Love from Florida (always appreciate the pics!) ;-)
I had no idea about those qualifications to participate in the Boston Marathon. Unfortunately, just the mention of it reawakens memories of that tragedy; hard to believe 9 years have passed. I pray the survivors have managed to heal both their physical and mental wounds.
