ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
MONDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Flag Day which celebrates the history of our flag an what it represents today and what we’d like it to represent tomorrow. On this day in 1777 the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution, which designated the first official American Flag.
There have been 27 different American flags over the coarse of our nation’’s history. The one we use today, which features 50 stars, became our national emblem in 1960.
President Woodrow Wilson designated Flag Day as an official holiday 1916. However the idea of an annual celebration of the flag dates back to 1885when schoolteacher Bernard J Cigrand held the first known Flag Day.
To celebrate Flag Day, decorate your home with an American flag and start transforming how you celebrate the the 4th of July this year.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The flag is the embodiment, not of sentiment, but of history.
Woodrow Wilson
I don’t have a flag pole here at my house so I decided to use the flower boxes on the carport to display the flag. I’ve shown the pictures many times before. I also have a few inside the house. They are in vases along with some flowers here and there.
I’m proud to be an American and display the flag most of the year when the weather is fair and warmer. Usually May until November which is just about how long the flowers last too.
Our community also has the flag displayed on large flag poles at the entrance to the park.
It’s my day to cook once again and on the menu is
American Goulash
Makes 4 servings
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 1/3 cups chopped onion
1 lb. lean ground beef or turkey
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 14 oz. can diced tomatoes undrained
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 cup beef broth
1 1/4 cups whole wheat elbow macaroni
1 tabs. grated Parmesan cheese
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Add onion and beef, cook, braking up meat with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink.Add garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Cook stirring for 1 minutes. Stir in tomato and their juices, tomato sauce and broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low, cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add macaroni and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with Parmesan, if desired.
This is a family favorite and I like to add a little chili powder to mine. I’ve made it many times over the years.
I hope you enjoy and have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Celebrate Flag Day!
Yours is such a clever way to display the flag! I was disappointed not to have found much in the way of patriotic decorations at the Dollar Store ... but settled for a star-spangled tablecloth and red/white checkered napkins. Oh, and I found a flag lapel pin in with my earrings this morning. I love our flag!
Happy Flag day! I like the way you display your flags, it's very festive. Enjoy your delicious dinner and have a great week!
Your goulash recipe sounds much like the one my mother made.....and I still make it, too.
I like having a couple of pots of food so I don't have to cook every night. NOT my favorite thing to do. Right now we are cleaning out the fridge and eating up all kinds of leftovers before heading to the ranch in the morning!
