ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
MONDAY,FEBRUARY 21ST, 2022
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is President’s Day which was first celebrated as Washington’s Birthday. In the 1960’s, Americans celebrated both Washington’s Birthday and Lincolns’s Birthday in the Month of February. Then in 1968, Congess passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved the observances of Washington’s birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February. The original plan was to combine it with Lincoln’s Birthday and rename it to Presidents’ Day, but that part of the bill never passed.
No matter what you call it, today is the perfect opportunity to celebrate American Presidents and pay tribute to the contributions that have made to this country. The official roles of the President of the United States include Chief of State, Chief Diplomat, Chief Administrator, Commander in Chief , Chief Legistlator, and the Head of the Party.
To celebrate today, take a moment to learn something new about one of our presidents. Happy Presidents’ Day.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
George Washington is the only president who didn’t blame the previous administration for his troubles.

I’m a proud American and honor all our Presidents. They do a job none of us wants. They have so many responsibilities, we couldn’t do.
Our Schools and banks are closed today along with most government offices like the Post Office. It’s a day, that lots of people go shopping to see what’s on special for the Presidents Day Sales.
For years and years DD and I went to the Outlet Mall by Lodi, Ohio, but sadly now most of their stores have closed. I sure do miss their sales. So no shopping for us today.
So many stores have closed down due to internet shopping that there aren’t many stores left here at our local mall either. Most of the moved out to more populated areas here. Now I’d have to travel quite aways, where before they were just down the street. Our mall now has a lot of empty buildings both locally and at the outlet mall. So today’s pictures come from one of my Previous President’s Day shopping expeditions.
It’s supposed to be a lovely day with sunny skies and temps in the 50’s. Tomorrow will be still warm but rainy and sadly I have to go for my lab work then. I have to do this for my Doctor’s appointment coming up March 1st. He wants to see if there is anything new with my kidney condition.
I dread going out in the rain, but I’ll have my umbrella handy. After Tuesday we’re to get cold again with temps back in the 30’s and lower and possible snow on Thursday and Friday. It’ll be the middle of next week before we start to warm up again.
On today’s menu is a nice hot soup to enjoy
Brown Rice Mulligatawny
Makes 5 servings
2 Tbsp butter
2 celery ribs, chopped
1 onion chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tsp. flour
1 1/2 tsp curry powder
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 carton, 32 oz. chicken broth
1/4 cup uncooked long grain rice
2 cups cubed cooked chicken breast
2 cups fresh spinach
1/2 cup chopped peeled sweet apple
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp dried thyme
5 Tbsp. sour cream
In a large sauce pan heat butter over medium heat. Add celery , onion and carrot. Cook and stir 5 to 7 minutes or until tender. Add mushrooms and garlic, cook one minute longer.
Stir in flour, curry powder and cayenne pepper until blended. Cook and stir 5 minutes. Gradually whisk in broth. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Add rice. Reduce heat and simmer covered 45 to 50 minutes or until rice is tender.
Add chicken, spinach, apple, salt, pepper and thyme. Cook uncovered 5 minutes longer or until heated through and spinach is wilted. Top each serving with sour cream.
It’s a tasty and easy soup to make and best of all I’ll have some left for lunch on the cold days ahead.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!!

10,004.for all the Presidents of the United States
10,005.for hot soup on a cold day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Honor all of our Presidents today !
Our mall has finally completely closed down, the nearest one is probably close to an hour away. It's a shame, but I have to admit I do most of my shopping online now like most. Times change. I hope you enjoyed the weather today and hopefully you can get out to the lab before the rain tomorrow!
God arranged the men who would lead the US. George Washington was the bold and courageous leader. Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president. What he accomplished is incredible. God put him there for a reason, and He took Lincoln Home to save him from seeing the failures of the congress.
Lovely pictures of you Ma. Happy Presidents day.
