Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.
Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.
Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.
Always think on the bright side--no matter what life brings to your day. You'll gain a treasure within your soul that no worry or hardship can ever take away. Isaac Purcell
RECIPES AND CRAFTS
The labels shown below will take you to posts with recipes and a few craft ideas that I've included in my daily entries.
I'm looking out the window and the day is drab and dreary, And I'm trying to console myself by thinking something cheery I know it's simply horrible to get in such a slump And I also know it's up to me to get across the hump And I realize I'm selfish to mention this to you For, gee, you might be feeling a little 'low-down' too but often when I feel like this I tell myself it's true That I am not the only one who feels 'low-down and blue' And just knowing there are others who feel the way I do Renews my sinking spirit and keeps me smiling through and know that it's natural to take a 'spirit-dive' Provides the spunk and courage to hang on and survive And while there are a lot of moods that we can drive away by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE in all we do and say, There also is a loneliness that God meant us to feel But, gee, it sure is mighty hard to know which one is real And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack' who never saw the sun And just complained that every day was such a dreary one. But I know that all the dark days are just part of God's plan We should accept them graciously and do the best we can... So I'll just keep on trying for I know it's 'Gospel true' there never was a cloud so dark the sun could not shine through!

On the Bright Side Newsletter
I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal. The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life. You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share. In a world that very often publishes only the dark side of things I felt that others would be encouraged to hear about 'the bright side'. 'On Ya'-ma

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE
The comfortable and comforting people are those who look upon the bright side of life; gathering its roses and sunshine and makingthe most that happens seem the best.
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
Today is also National Tooth Fairy Day which celebrates the baby teeth the kids have lost before they got their permanent teeth.
For hundreds of years people have shared mystical legends and traditions about the loss of baby teeth. The early Europeans buried children’s teeth so witches and evil spirits couldn’t use them for voodoo. The Vikings believed that children teeth had magical powers that would help them fight in battle. They would pay their children for their lost teeth and string them onto a necklace and other jewelry.
Over time, people began to share stories of a Tooth Mouse who scampered around town and steals children’s teeth in the middle of the night. The story of the mouse evolved into the story of the Tooth Fairy who leaves treasures under children’s pillows in exchange for their lost teeth.
The Tooth Fairy is still popular today. Kids all over the world place their lost teeth under their pillows at night and look forward to a wonderful surprise in the morning.

This grandson’s birthday was one that I got to celebrate in person. I went to his party on Saturday. DS#6 and his wife were the hosts and we had a fun time. They fixed a delicious pasta dinner as that is what my grandson requested. All the children were happy to see each other and had a good time. I’m so thankful that I got to go as far too many birthdays are long distance ones in my family. He is now 12 years old which reminds me that it is now 12 years that I’ve been retired. The first thing I did when I retired was to go and baby sit for him when his mom went back to work after her maternity leave. It was a time of great joy for me. I didn’t get to do this with my older grandchildren due to the fact that I was working.
Over the years the Tooth Fairy paid out a lot of money to my children. They all put their lost teeth under the pillow and found some money in the morning. Some poople save their childs lost teeth in a special box, but that didn’t happen at my house. The kids didn’t mind losing a tooth so much when they knew they’d get money for it.
This morning I’m going to drop off my car at the garage to be worked on and then DSIL will be giving me a ride back home. I’m not used to being out and about early, but I have to have it there by 9:00. Most days I don’t even get dressed until noon. Thankfully the weather is cooperating and it’s supposed to be a nice day here for a change. It’s to be party sunny with temps in the upper 30’s. Yay! more snow will be melting !
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!!

Today is National Strawberry Day which honors one of the most popular fruits in the world. They are the first fruit to ripen every year, so they are often called the taste of spring. The bright red juicy berries are both delicious and incredibly good for you.
Each bite is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber.
People have been enjoying strawberries and their health benefits for centuries. In fact, the Ancient Romans believed that strawberries could cure fevers, fainting, inflammation, and several other ailments. They also used the berries for teeth whitening.
To celebrate today, enjoy a bowl of strawberries and cream, a strawberry smoothie, a piece of toast smothered in strawberry jam, or a scoop of strawberry ice cream.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Strawberries are full of love and happiness.

I don’t have any strawberries here to enjoy today, so I’ll be celebrating with some strawberry jam on toast. I always have some of that in the fridge.
It seems that strawberries are always available at the store. But if you’ve ever had a fresh one picked right from a strawberry patch, it’s unbelievable how much better they taste. Our strawberry season is a short one. And you don’t don’t see many places offering fresh ones, but when I was a young girl, I’d go strawberry picking with a friend in a field down the street from where we lived. They were wild ones and not very big, but very tasty. We probably ate more than we brought home.
I’ve got to take my car in early Monday morning for repairs. My car is not running right and the check engine light is on. I’m hoping they can fixed it quickly, but DD has assured me they’ll give me a ride if I need one. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday.
My appointment for my eye check on Friday went well. The doctor there said it was time for me to have cataract surgery on my eyes and it wouldn’t do any good to get new glasses right now. He referred me to a specialist so now I have to call them and get an appointment so I can have that done.
But for today, I’ve no place I’ve got to go so I’m staying in and relaxing today. The temps are supposed to warm up above freezing so hopefully that will melt some of the snow here on the ground.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!!

Blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are true super foods. Naturally sweet and juicy, berries are low in sugar and high in nutrients - they are among the best foods you can eat.

Today is Tell a Fairy Tale Day which is the perfect time to let your imagination roam free. Read fairy tales to your kids or just read them for fun.
There are countless stories to choose from Little Red Riding Hood , Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel to the Princess and the peal. All whimsical tales that have entertained children and adults alike for years.
A fairy tale is traditionally a short story with mythical and fantastic characters such as elves, fairies, gnomes and more These stories are meant to enchant readers.
Celebrate today and read aloud your favorite together with someone or by yourself. It’s a good idea to encourage kids to be creative and write one of their own.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
Neil Gaiman
My pictures today are from a few years back when some of the grands attended a pirates and princess party. All children dream of their fairy tales coming true.
I do love tales that start with once upon a time and end with they lived happily ever after. What could be better for anyone but to have a happy ending.
Although I’m going to a birthday party today for our Lucky Guy, I’m still cooking for the weekend so that I won’t have to cook tomorrow which is Sunday, my day of rest
On the menu is:
Maple Dijon Chicken
Makes 4 servings
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch strips
1/2 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
1/3 cup Dijon mustard
3 Tbsp. maple syrup
Toss chicken with seasonings. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat and saute chicken. Add onion and garlic and stir 5 minutes. Stir in mustard and syrup and stir until it is caramelized.
I think I’ll be having mine on top of some noodles and a simple salad to go with it. It is advised to use less mustard if you don’t like the taste of it.
DS#5 and his family will be giving me a ride today as the party is 1 1/2 hours away. And I’m supposed to be coming home with DD as she is coming later on by herself and would like company going home. Her son is going to be in a math contest this morning and I wish him the best of luck.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!!
