ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a special occasion!

Today is Teddy Bear Day which is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our most loyal childhood companions. The teddy bear dates back to the early 1900’s and it’s history is closely linked to an American President.
In November 1902, President Theodore, Teddy, Roosevelt attended a bear hunt in Mississippi. The other members of the hunting party captured a young bear, tied it to a tree, and offered the shot to the president. When word spread that Roosevelt refused to kill the bear, a political cartoonist named Clifford Berryman depicted the president with the bear titled, Drawing the line in Mississippi. In the first printing the bear was a full grown animal, but it wss later redrawn as a cub. The story and the cartoon became famous, and toy makers where were inspired to create the first Teddy’s Bear. By 1906 the teddy bear craze was in full swing.
Today, teddy bears are a staple in any young child’s life. Celebrate this American childhood icon and make sure the kids in your life have a huggable teddy bear.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A bear remains a bear, even when most of him has fallen off or worn away.

The only Teddy bear I have left here at my house is part of my fall decorations. I gave away all the bears I had when I moved, but this one was in the tub with the decorations.
We used to have a lot of them here from Winnie the Pooh bear to the Care Bears. All the kids had their favorite.
This fall bear reminds me that bear hibernate through the winter and when fall comes it’s time to get ready to hibserate. If I were an animal, I’d probably be a bear because that’s what I do all winter long. Stay inside and keep warm. I sleep a lot too.
But thankfully we still have the lovely season of Fall to get through. We can still get outside and enjoy the nice weather coming our way. It may be cooler but not too cold and that sounds really good to me.
I finally heard from the doctor yesterday with a report on the Lab work I’d had done. The good news is that the sonogram I had done was all good. So there is nothing further I need to be doing. The blood tests however showed that I need to take Vitamin D. That’s no unexpected as many of us in Ohio have a Vitamin D deficiency here due to the lack of sunshine. So I’ll be taking an extra pill now. He also said it showed my thyroid level is high but he turned over that information to my primary care doctor which probably means I’ll have another pill to take. It’s one of those things that seems to come with age. And yes, I’m getting old. Ha!
So all in all everything is good with me and I’m glad I finally got some answers.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

ADVICE FOR TODAY
A teddy bear does not depend upon mechanics to give him the semblance of life. He is loved, and therefore he lives.

It's a good day to hug your Teddy Bear.
One of my favorite possessions is a little teddy bear that belonged to my father when he was a toddler (ca. 1914).
CONGRATULATIONS on the good sonogram results! Last year my son encouraged me to start taking Vitamin D and Zinc every day to ward off COVID. Sure enough, when I went to ask a Wal-Mart associate where I could find them she had to get more supplies from the back. She said, "These are flying off the shelves!"
PS - My sis-in-law's doctor told her (that) thyroid issues are becoming so commonplace in older women, "they should start putting Synthroid in the drinking water." (LOL)
