ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Buzzard Day, which is the annual celebration of a bird whose circling overhead was a signal to the cowboys of old that a once living creature had met its demise seems strange to say the least. Yet, Buzzard Day is circled on the calendars of many dedicated Ohio residents who, once a year, eagerly scan the skies with binoculars watching for its return. For them this graceful, winged creature with its bald head and red beak signals, not death, but rebirth.
The mid March buzzard celebration is led by an ‘Official Buzzard Spotter’ on the Hinckley Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks. A large number of enthusiasts converge on Buzzard Roost at around 6:30am in anticipation of the bird’s return. Those for whom this is beyond the call of duty can still participate in the joyous celebrations by attending Buzzard Sunday for festive family fun that celebrates the return of this flying precursor to spring.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
After the snow and cold of yesterday and continuing into today, we are all looking for signs of Spring for sure. They say that tomorrow we’ll warm up to above freezing with the sunshine peeping through and the snow will start melting. By Friday, which is St. Patricks Day, we’ll see some rain instead.
Maybe this will be our last snow for the season, but we had snow for our family Easter celebration last year, so it’s still possible. We have had snow in April many times. Winter just has a hard time letting go in our part of the world.
Living where we do with Lake Erie close by, we get lake effect snow when the wind blows across the icy water and depending just what direction it takes we can get a lot of snow. It’s looking like it will go east of us for the most part today.
I’m hoping to get out and about today as the roads look clear. Lots to do yet.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Pears Helene Day! Pears Helene, or Pears Belle-Helene, is a delicious French dessert that combines warm poached pears, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate sauce. Auguste Escoffier created this dish and named it after the opera La belle Helene.
Pears are the third most important fruit crop in the United States, behind apples and peaches. They are an excellent source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, copper, fiber, and potassium.
PEARS BELLE HELENE
4 ripe, firm unblemished pears
2 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. water
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
4 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 c. chocolate sauce
1/4 c. toasted slivered almonds
Remove the core and stem from each of the pears. Peel the pears. Cut the pears in half lengthwise using a melon ball cutter. Remove the center core. Cut away the bottom center line leading from the core to the stem end.
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer 5 minutes. Add the pears and vanilla and simmer, uncovered until the pears are tender, about 15 minutes.
Remove the pears from the heat and let them cool in the syrup. Place one scoop of ice cream in the pear, then the sauce over it. Top with almonds.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Is it so small a thing
To have enjoyed the sun,
To have lived light in the spring,
To have loved, to have thought, to have done.
Matthew Arnold
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

So pretty with the snow, but not when you have lots to do and are relying on the roads being a bit clear! I hope you can get the stuff done you need to get done today, Ma!

Wow, that's interesting about buzzards.
Personal aside? I think I'm living in the wrong part of the country ... lusting after these pictures. (*smile*) Snow on Easter sounds WONDERFUL right now.
