ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 1ST, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

WELCOME DECEMBER!
Life is a special occasion!

The month of December is: Aids Awareness Month, Buckwheat Month, Car Donation Month, National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, National Pear Month, National Tie Month, Safe Toys and Gifts Month, and Worldwide Food Service Safety Month.
Today is National Christmas Lights Day which is the day to deck the halls and get into the holiday spirit. People have decorated trees with lights since the 17th century. Christmas lights were candles clipped onto the tree branches. The first outdoor electric Christmas lights were introduced in 1880 by Thomas Edison. According to the Library of Congress , Thomas Edison created the first strand of electric lights, which were them displayed outside of his Menlo Park Laboratory for passerby’s to enjoy. In 1903 General Electric began to sell Christmas light kits to the general public, making the holiday spectacle assessable to families across the country.
Christmas lights are a great way to speed joy during the holiday season. To celebrate this holiday, illuminate your house for Christmas today.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most.
Ruth Carter Stapleton
There are no Christmas lights at my house yet as I’m still busy getting Fall put away, but it won’t be long now and that will be done, then I’ll have some lights to plug in. All I do is hang a lighted wreath outside on the house, but I need DS#5 in order to do that. He is tall enough to put it up without even using a ladder.
There are many homes in my neighborhood that are already lit up and I feel like I’m running behind, but it won’t take me long to catch up. Late is better than never, which is what some do . They never put up any lights. But for me, I want some lights up to celebrate the Christmas season. I really think they do make a difference.
The pictures today are of some I’ve seen over the years.
This is Wednesday, and time to make up a new menu so that I can get my shopping list done today.
On the menu for next week is:
Monday - Satisfying Tomato Soup
Wednesday - West Coast Snappy Joes
Friday- Creamy Scallop Crepes
Weekend - Pot Luck Sausage Casserole
On the menu for today is :
Open Face Turkey Reubens
Makes 4 servings
1/3 cup mayonaise
4 tsp. ketchup
1 Tbsp. dill relish
3 cups coleslaw mix
4 slices pumpernickel bread
4 tsp. vegetable oil
8 thin slices deli turkey
6 slices Swiss cheese
Position rack in upper third of oven; preheat broiler
Whisk mayo, ketchup and relish in a bowl. Add coleslaw mix and toss to coat
Place bread on a rimmed baking sheet and brush each piece with 1 tsp. of oil. Broil until toasted. Flip the bread over and top each piece with turkey, 1/2 cup of coleslaw and 1 1/2 slices of Swiss cheese
Toast the sandwiches under the broiler until the cheese is melted.
You could use leftover turkey, instead of deli turkey if you wanted, but keep the slices thin. I’m using deli turkey on mine.
I’ll be going out for a haircut this afternoon so will be doing the shopping tomorrow.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
Edith Wharton

A bit of love from someone dear…

Lights are a big part of the Christmas holidays !
Beautiful light displays! I'm going to ask Tom if he wouldn't enjoy that sandwich. Goodness knows, the turkey meat remaining isn't shrinking!
