ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
TUESDAY DECEMBER 21ST, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is the Winter Solstice which means the official end of Autumn. It occurs when the sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance from the hemisphere, resulting in the shortest day of the year and the longest night. For the Northern hemisphere this usually occurs between December 21 to 23 each year. In the Southern Hemisphere it takes place between June 20 to 23.
The word solstice means sun stands still. This seasonal milestone has been celebrated since ancient times. The Romans for example, honored Saturn, the god of time and harvest, with a weeklong feast called Saturnelia
While traditions surrounding the winter solstice differ from culture to culture, most recognize it as a symbol of rebirth. Various festivals , gatherings and rituals take place today worldwide.
To celebrate today gather with family around a cozy fire
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
Anne Bradstreet
While I don’t presently have a fire to gather around and since I live by myself, I guess I’ll be lighting a candle today to spread some warmth. The best thing about today for me, is that now the days will begin to grow longer, minute by minute until we reach the Summer Solstice, when they’ll start to grow shorter once again.
The good news is that soon I’ll have a fireplace to gather around. For Christmas this year all of my children went together and got me a new TV and a new TV stand that has an electric fire place built into it.
I’ve always wanted a fire place and love them for the extra warmth, so this is an extra special gift to me.
I didn’t think I needed a new TV, but they had other ideas and thought I needed a larger one than what I had. It isn't set up yet, but DSIL and DS#5 said they will be doing the job for me. My kids are very generous and do spoil me. And I so appreciate them more than words can say.
This is was not the only gift they gave me, I got many smaller things which included an Insta Pot, so soon I’ll be sharing recipes using it to make dinner.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Winter is a time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk side the fire: it is the time for home.
Edith Sitwell
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Enjoy and celebrate the Winter season !
Isn't it funny (not 'ha-ha', but ironic) how different we all are? The winter solstice is my favorite time of year; I love the short days.
WOW on that new TV and electric fireplace!!! We had to put ours (fireplace) in the front room to make room for the Christmas tree, but I miss it terribly. Not so much for the warmth - we rarely use that feature - but the ambience. I'm sure looking forward to reading how you're you're using your Instant Pot (recipes). I wasn't expecting it, but aside from the Keurig, it's become my favorite appliance.
Love the pictures of your home and so glad you will be getting a fireplace...merry Christmas!
