ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH, 2021
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a special occasion!

Today is Ash Wednesday which is a Christian holiday that marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. This period of fasting is traditionally a time of reflection and atonement. Ash Wednesday prepares us for Easter Sunday that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One tradition of Ash Wednesday is to receive ashes. The ashes used in today’s services are made of palms that were used on Palm Sunday of the previous year. The ashes are placed on foreheads as a reminder of humility and sacrifice. Beyond being a symbol of penance, the ashes serve as a reminder that God is merciful to those who wish to repent.
To celebrate today, go to church and receive ashes or by participating in online services.
If you can’’t see the bright side, polhish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return
Genesis 3:19
I’ll be watching online services today. I’m not planning on going out for anything. Although its usually my day to go shopping, I’m staying at home. Besides my car battery died and I have to call the road service to get me started again. On the bright side it is sunny out!
I still made a grocery list and made up a menu for next week and will have it ready when I do go out.
Monday- Meatless Chili Mac
Wednesday- Quick Beans and Rice Buritos
Friday-Homemade Fettuccine Alfredo
Weekend- Cacciatore Chicken Breasts
I had to make a change to my menu for today and will be fixing
Salmon Loaf
1 can, 14 3/4 oz. salmon, drained, bones and skin removed
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
3 eggs, separated
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 teas. minced fresh parsley
1/2 tsp. slat
1/8 tsp pepper
Cream Sauce
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 chopped pimento stuffed olives
In a large bowl, conbine the salmon, onion, bread crumbs and butter. Stir in the egg yolks, lemon juice, parsley, salt and pepper.
In small bowl beat the egg whites on high speed until solt peaks form. Fold into salmon mixture.
Transfer to a greased loaf pan. Place in larger baking pan. Add one inch of water to larger pan. Bake at 350 degrees until knife inserted comes out clean. 45 to 45 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
Meanwhile in small pan, melt the butter. Stir in flour until smooth; gradually add milk. Bring to a boil, cook and stir until thickened . Stir in olives. Serve with Salmon loaf.
I prefer peas in my cream sauce, not olives, so that is what I used. This is good served with mashed potatoes.
I hope you all have WONDERFUL Wednesday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Ash Wednesday is full of joy… the source of all sorrow is the illusion that of ourselves we are anything but dust.
Thomas Merton
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
He need not fear anything,
nor be ashamed of anything,
who bears the sign of the cross
on his brow.
St. Augustine
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

So thankful for the sunshine this morning even though it was only 1 degree out.when I woke up.
Your menu and salmon loaf sound great. I'm sorry to hear about the car, but better to say home when it's that cold out anyway. Bundle up and stay warm!
In my 'growing up' years, Ash Wednesday was always observed in the Lutheran church. Besides Roman Catholicism, I think we were the only ones. Imagine my surprise when our Methodist Church announced plans for a service tonight -- even a drive-up ashes observation for those not ready to worship in person. Then about an hour ago we all got an e-mail from Pastor Janet saying she'd been exposed to COVID and has to quarantine. Scary days!
Just checking in, I'm worried not seeing posts from you today. I sure hope it's just trouble with your computer/internet issues and not a loss of power. Please let us know how you are doing asap!
