RELAX!!! Today is National Stress Awareness Day. This is your opportunity to recognize that there is plenty of stress in your life... as if you didn't already know. More importantly, today is an opportunity to learn, and to do something about the stress...... before it drives you batty or worse.
Did you know? There was method behind the madness. April 16 was designated as Stress Awareness Day, because it is the day after taxes are due!
April is also designated as Stress Awareness Month.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
To insure good health: Eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.
William Londen
Stress is a part of most everyone’s life. The days here at my house are pretty stress free for the most part but that doesn’t mean I haven’t ever had a stressful day.
Sometimes when we are most stressed out it’s important to remember to just breathe. Taking in a deep breath and then slowly releasing it relives a lot of stress.
There are plenty of ways to relieve stress such as exercise, a long soak in a hot bath, or even a massage. But believe it or not, something you're doing right now, probably without even thinking about it, is a proven stress reliever: breathing.
As it turns out, deep breathing is not only relaxing, it's been scientifically proven to affect the heart, the brain, digestion, and the immune system. Our breaths will either wake us up or energize us. It will relax us, or it will just balance us,
Believe me when I say there have been many times when I’ve stopped what I’m doing and just taken a few deep breaths and maybe said a few short prayers too. It works! The breathing and the praying. Say a prayer and just breath!
It’s looking like a wonderful day in our neighborhood. Temps reading in the 60’s reaching for 70’s. I’m getting things ready here today for our 3rd Sunday dinner tomorrow. I’m roasting up a 7.6 pound turkey breast and looked for something new to do with it and this is what I found.
Basted with a thyme, butter and wine sauce, this one's moist and full of flavor.
1 whole turkey breast, thawed if frozen
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/4 cup dry white wine or apple juice
1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons cold water
Heat oven to 325ºF. Place turkey, skin side up, on rack in large shallow roasting pan. Insert ovenproof meat thermometer so tip is in thickest part of breast. Roast uncovered 1 hour.
Mix butter, wine, thyme, salt, paprika and garlic. Brush turkey with half of the butter mixture. Cover and roast 30 minutes; brush with remaining butter mixture. Roast about 1 hour longer or until thermometer reads 165ºF.
Remove turkey from oven and let stand 15 minutes for easier carving.
Meanwhile, pour pan drippings into measuring cup; skim fat from drippings. Add enough water to drippings to measure 2 cups. Heat drippings to boiling in 1 quart saucepan. Mix cornstarch and 2 tablespoons cold water; stir into drippings. Boil and stir 1 minute. Serve with turkey.
The rule of thumb for buying turkey: 1 pound per person
I don’t have any wine or apple juice on hand, but I do have some apple cider and that is what I’ll be using. It all sounds delicious and along with that I’ll have some stuffing, mashed potatoes and a nice salad too.
I saw the first of our tulips blooming yesterday but the rest are still in bud and that is what my pictures are of today. It won’t be long now with the warmer weather and they’ll all be in full bloom. I’ll be taking pictures of their progress and sharing them in the days ahead.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !
PRAYER REQUEST
DDIL#1 has asked for prayers for one of her cousins who had a seizure at work yesterday. They took him to the hospital and he seemed to be recovering then had a second seizure and had to be put on a ventilator and moved to ICU. The next 24 hours are critical. They don’t have all the test results yet so they are not sure what caused it. Please join me in praying for him.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3775. for deep breathes, they do relive stress
3776. for a turkey breast to share with family
3777. for prayers, they work
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Fear less, hope more;
eat less, chew more;
whine less breathe more;
talk less, say more; hate less,
love more; and all good things are yours.
Swedish Proverb
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

I like that recipe for the turkey breast! I think I'll be making that down the way. Will say a prayer for your DDIL#1's coworker. Scary indeed!
Good that national stress awareness day came on a Saturday this year; people will have a chance perhaps to be less stressed. Been stressed this week with trying to get a new fence around the place; the worker is a good one, just slower than I was hoping. Have to remember it will get done and try not to be too stressed about it.
betty
Whenever I'd become inordinately stressed, I remember so feeling better after I'd gone out to enjoy a cigarette.
What-ya know, but those deep breaths each time I inhaled might have had the same effect if I'd just practiced careful breathing right there at my desk! I used to think it ironic that some of the biggest stress-inducers (hospitals and courthouses) were among the first to ban smoking. Maybe they should put up signs saying, "Just Breathe"?
Holding your DDIL's cousin in prayer!
have a wonderful week
