Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Red Hat Society Day is celebrated annually on April 25th. It commemorates the anniversary of the first meeting of the Red Hat Society, a social organization for women over age 50, that was took place in 1998.
The society's attitude is that we're all going to get older, so let's enjoy the ride.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
Jenny Joseph
I’m not a member of the Red Hat Society, but I do admire what they stand for. I believe that we should never get too old to enjoy life. No matter what age we are, life is a gift and meant to be enjoyed.
When I turned 50 I was given a Red Hat shirt to wear. Funny how I thought I was old at 50 and now I’m over 70 and still enjoying life. I still have the shirt and even a red hat to wear. Aging is a part of life and it is meant to be celebrated.
Our day is going to start out the with some sunshine and warm weather, but rain is coming later on they say. Hope you can get out and enjoy it while it lasts !
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
April 25 is National Zucchini Bread Day!
Not only is zucchini bread quick and easy to make, but the shredded zucchini adds a nice, moist texture. Its impossible to find zucchini in your garden in April, but you can buy it in a grocery store. Look for small and medium sized zucchinis, because they are the most flavorful!
Zucchini Bread
2 cups zucchini, grated
1/3 cup water
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup vegetable oil
3 cups sugar
teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup walnuts, chopped
Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, nutmeg, baking soda, cinnamon and sugar. In a separate bowl, combine oil, eggs, water, zucchini and lemon juice. Mix wet ingredients into dry, add nuts and fold in. Bake in 2 standard loaf pans, sprayed with nonstick spray, for 1 hour, or until a tester comes out clean. Alternately, bake in 5 mini loaf pans for about 45 minutes. Makes 2 loaves.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self confidence, as old as your fear as young as your hope, as old as your despair.
Douglas MacArthur
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3802. for red hats, always fun
3803. for zucchini bread, especially when it’s warm with some butter on it
3804. for each new day, something to celebrate !
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
George Bernard Shaw
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

I remember having lots of zucchini bread growing up when it was ripe from the garden. Seemed like everyone around us also grew zucchini :) Nowadays I enjoy zucchini that has been grilled :)
It is funny with our ages. We do think a certain age is old until we get to the next milestone. I remember thinking growing up my mom was "old" at a certain age and now that I've reached that age, I don't feel "old."
betty
