Always celebrated the last Friday in April. National Arbor Day is the Tree Planter's holiday, and has been celebrated since 1872. It began in Nebraska, a largely treeless plain back in the 1800's. It is a day to plant and dedicate a tree to help nature and the environment.
The National Arbor Day Foundation provides millions of trees for planting. It is estimated that 18 million tress are planted each year on Arbor Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I
but when the trees bow down their heads,
the wind is passing by.
Christina Rossetti
Thankfully there are plenty of trees around here to enjoy. The ones around my house are finally turning green. The blossoms on the magnolia bush have faded and green leaves have replaced them. There are maple trees, oak trees and evergreen trees close by too.
The trees that have impressed me most though were the ones that surrounded my camper a few years ago. They were plentiful and they were tall. When the wind blew they looked like they were dancing. So that is what my pictures are of today.
I can’t imagine a world without trees. They are a blessing and I’m thankful for them.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Shrimp Scampi Day, a great opportunity to eat and enjoy a great meal and it’s so easy to make at home! With just a few ingredients, this shrimp scampi recipe is made right in a skillet. Serve these succulent shrimp over a bed of hot fettuccine or angel hair pasta and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese
Shrimp Scampi
1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
3/4 lb uncooked deveined peeled medium shrimp, thawed if frozen, tail shells removed
1 medium green onion, thinly sliced
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
2 teaspoons chopped fresh or 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley or 3/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon salt
Grated Parmesan cheese, if desired
In 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add shrimp and remaining ingredients except cheese. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until shrimp are pink. Do not overcook shrimp or they will become tough. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with cheese.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Let us learn to appreciate there will be times when the trees will be bare, and look forward to the time when we may pick the fruit.
Peter Seller
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
