11 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
12 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
Sunrise:7:44 am
Sunset:4:59 pm
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Look at the Candy Cane
What do you see?
Stripes that are red
Like the blood shed for me
White is for my Savior
Who's sinless and pure!
'J' is for Jesus My Lord, that's for sure!
Turn it around
And a staff you will see
Jesus my shepherd
Was born for Me!
One of the many signs that Christmas is coming soon is the candy cane which is also packed with symbolism
Many years ago, a candy maker wanted to make a candy at Christmas time that would serve as a witness to his Christian faith. He wanted to incorporate several symbols for the birth, ministry and death of Jesus. He began with a stick of pure white hard candy; white to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus; hard to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church; firmness to represent the promise of God.
The candymaker made the candy in the form of a ‘J’ which represented the name of Jesus and the staff of the Good Shepherds. He then stained it with three stripes which showed the scourging Jesus received, and symbolized the blood shed by Christ on the cross. Sometimes a green stripe is added as a reminder that Jesus is a gift from God.
The flavor of the cane is peppermint, which is similar to hyssop. Hyssop is in the mint family and was used in the Old Testament for purification and sacrifice. Jesus is the pure Lamb of God, come to be a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
The true meaning of the candy cane is there for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday today and enjoy a candy cane or two!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?
The LORD is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid?
Psalms 27
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1208. for candy canes
1209. for the refreshing taste of peppermint
1210. for legends that serve to remind us of the importance of Christmas
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

MA, I've been behind reading blogs with the cold weather... so busy outside doing chores... but this brightened my morning! I did not know about the candy cane, and will always think of this story now when I put one on the tree or eat one. Thank you!
I was just thinking about candy canes the other day, Ma. I do remember the story behind the creation of them. It is interesting how they have changed in color and flavor over the years.
