ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
DECEMBER 7th, 2008
TODAY'S THOUGHT
Life is what we make it. Always has been. Always will be.
Grandma Moses
TODAY’S ACTION
Open your heart and eyes to see that opportunities to help and serve
are everywhere
TODAY’S QUOTE
If you're not using your smile, you're like a man with a million dollars
in the bank and no checkbook.
Les Giblin
IT’S SUNDAY !!
Lots of snow and below freezing temps blew in our way Saturday. Today I guess I’ll get out and shovel the walkways.
I had a scare with the beagle yesterday as he had followed me upstairs once more. He was laying just outside my doorway and I heard a thump like something had fallen. He had laid over sideways but seemed unable to move. I was sure this must be the end of him but no…after I picked him up and carried him downstairs, he got up and started walking around again. I must remember to put the baby gate up so he cannot do the stairs; it is too much for him and for me too, as he is no lightweight to carry downstairs.
I’m supposed to go to an Advent service this afternoon with one of my dulcimer buddies, but we’ll see how the roads are by then. Hope you are all keeping warm !
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !
TODAY’S PRAYERS
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your love.
Come, Lord Jesus, come
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU !
25 WORDS
God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me,
and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name
TO REMEMBER…
I am in the hands of God,
and in God’s time all things will be made well.
TODAY IS… REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR DAY
Honoring our World War II Veterans on Pearl Harbor Day... At dawn on Sunday, December 7, 1941, naval aviation forces of the Empire of Japan attacked the United States Pacific Fleet center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Although airfields, port facilities, and warships were severely damaged and two battleships, the Utah and the Arizona, were destroyed, the attack mobilized the United States and signaled its entry into World War II.
Today the Arizona is a memorial and a national park. And, without the help of Elvis Presley, the Memorial might still be just a dream. Elvis staged a benefit concert at Pearl Harbor’s Bloch Arena on March 25, 1961, raising more than $60,000 to start the USS Arizona Memorial’s building fund. Construction was completed in 1980
We pause to reflect on one of America’s most tragic days

1787 - Delaware, the First State, was first to ratify the proposed U.S. Constitution and was the first state admitted to the Union. Delaware state bird is the blue hen chicken. And the capital of Delaware is Dover and the peach blossom is the state flower
1926 - The household refrigerator, operating on gas, was patented. No, not by what you might think of as a major appliance manufacturer. The refrigerator was patented by the Electrolux Servel Corporation. Name sound familiar? Yep -- the vacuum cleaner people.
1995 - The U.S. spacecraft Galileo arrived at Jupiter, and fired its main engine for 49 minutes to attain a successful orbit around Jupiter. The same day, Galileo's atmospheric probe plunged into Jupiter’s atmosphere, and relayed information on the structure and composition of the solar system’s largest planet
EACH DAY OF DECEMBER
Dec. 7 - Tree Decorating Party:
Invite your friends to a great dinner party, and have each guest bring a tree ornament. After dinner, gather around and decorate the tree together. A wonderful variation would be to give the decorated tree to a needy family or a newlywed couple.
TODAY’S SMILE
Once there was a handsome clock that became preoccupied with worry about its future. It began thinking about the number of times it would have to tick: twice each second, 120 times per minute, 7,200 times an hour, 172,800 times a day, 63,072,000 times a year.
When it realized that in the next ten years it would have to tick 630,720,000 times, it had a nervous breakdown. The clock went to a watchmaker for therapy.
While under the watchmaker's care, the clock began to realize that all it needed to do was to tick just one tick at a time.
Soon it began to tick again, and it continued ticking, one tick at a time for one hundred years. And everyone loved that old grandfather clock.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life
John 8:12
I was busy one afternoon helping my family decorate the house and put up a Christmas tree in the living room. We decorated the tree with lights and glitter, and finally we placed a big, shiny star on the top.
As I sat back to admire the lights and glitter, it dawned on me that Jesus is the light of my life. He shines in my life with all the blessings of good health, a loving family, a job that I enjoy, good friends, peace, joy, love, financial blessings, food on the table, a roof over my head, and clothes to wear.
These and similar blessings are reason for a spirit of praise and thanksgiving. Rejoicing in the Lord not only makes us glad but also helps us begin to understand something of God's greatness and creativity in all things. As I looked at the star on top of the Christmas tree, I remembered and acknowledged that Jesus is the real reason for the Christmas season. He is the star, the light, in my life.
