Today is the Indianapolis 500 which is a race held at the speedway in Indiapolis. Once called the Greatest spectacle in racing, this race has become an American tradition.

The fist Indianapolis 500 race drew 80,200 spectators who each paid a $1 admission fee.  Since then, capacity at the speedway has increased to 250,000 permanent seats, making the speedway the worlds largest spectator sporting facility.

The Indy 500 event is rich in traditions, for example, multi colored balloons are always released at the at the start of the rae.  It is also become a tradition for the winner to kneel and kiss the Yard of Bricks and to pay tribute to the history of Speedway. It’s the combination of tradition and excitement that makes the race one of the most popular single day sporting events in the world.

To celebrate today, gather with friends and find out who will win this year.

The pictures today are of the racetrack I have here at my house.  It has provided hours of fun for the grandchildren.  I’ve never been to a racetrack so these will have to do.

Hopefully, it will be televised so I can watch on TV.  It’s to be a hot day here in Ohio with temps reaching the upper 80’s.  This is very unusual for us .  We don’t usually have it  this hot until July so it makes one wonder what July will be like.  

I’m not quite sure what I’ll be getting into today but going over to my daughters to dip in her pool sounds like a pretty good way to keep cool. Or I could turn on the a/c and watch TV... We’ll see …

It’s definitely going to be a day to keep cool and relax.
