ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Cherish an Antique Day which is a day to polish them up and put them on display. We have all been fascinated by the stories of the curiosities and the rare glimpse they give us into the lives of our ancestors.
In 1979 the first episode of Antiques Roadshow aired in the United Kingdom and residents presented their family heirlooms and collectibles for appraisal and learned their true value. The show was a success and is still in production today. On the American version of the show, the most valuable find to date was a set of carved rhinos which were appraised at 1 to 1.5 million dollars.
Celebrate today and learn the story behind your favorite antique.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Priceless things matter not for their value, but because they offer us an enduring reminder of stability and permanence.

Truth be told, most everything in my house is old and much of what I have could be considered an antique. None of it has much of any value except to me. I’m comfortable living with all my old stuff. Some of it was given to me, some was found in 2nd hand stores.
I’m close to becoming an antique my self so it’s so wonder I like old things! Ha! There used to be quite a few antique stores in our area and I would laugh when I saw something that I use every day sitting on a shelf in one of them. These days there is not so many, but I do like to visit thrift shops like Goodwill and Salvation Army because sometimes you’ll find a treasure or two there.
One of my more recent finds were antique post cards. I put them in picture frames that I also found at Goodwill and display them for Easter. They are shown in the pictures today. There is very little room here to add anything more to my collection so if I find something new, it has to be small.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

When I was growing up, we had a Christmas ornament that was always very special to us. I'm sure it was an antique only in the sense that it was really old! But my brother, sister, and I loved it. It was shaped like a Santa or a clown--so old we really couldn't tell the difference! We always hung it on the tree after the rest of the ornaments were on. There was just something special about it--it was our Santa Clown! At some point after we were all grown, it apparently was broken or lost. I remember finding one very similar to it and had planned to give it to my sister for the following Christmas. However, she died that October so I used it for our tree in the convent--and there again we made a bit of a ceremony of putting it on the tree. When I moved to a different convent, I left it behind because I thought it had more meaning to the sisters there than it would to the sisters where I would be moving. That was more than close to 30 years ago. This past year on New Years I visited some of our sisters in Wilmington. Two of them were sisters with whom I had lived those many years ago. They were in a different convent now with different sisters but were excited to point out to me that there on their Christmas tree was our Santa Clown!!
That's a splendid idea of showcasing olden postcards! I've a handful in an old jewelry box that belonged to my grandmother. However one looks at it, my family hand-me-downs aren't worth lots of $$$, but several have become sentimental favorites. After decades spent in boxes, I'm trying to find spots in the sun for them.
PS - I love the idea of using a quilt as a table cover like you've done in Photo #1!
