Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Homemade Bread Day is always November 17th.
Bread has been made for thousands of years. Estimates date it's origin back to 5000-10,000 B.C. Modern day lifestyles has relegated homemade bread to the world of specialty baking and holiday baking. People just don't have time to bake home made bread. We turn to a quick run to bakeries and grocery stores, for our bread needs. The arrival of automatic bread makers has created a small resurgence of home made breads, especially specialty breads.
The purpose of this day is easy to understand, we should make some tasty and nutritious bread. So, take a little time out of your busy day, and make some bread. Your nose, your taste buds, and your whole family will be glad you did.
Happy Homemade Bread Day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Looking for and enjoying beauty is a way to nourish the soul. the universe is in the habit of making beauty. There are flowers and songs, snowflakes and smiles, acts of great courage, laughter between friends, a job well done, the smell of fresh-baked bread. Beauty is everywhere.
Matthew Fox
One of my favorite homemade breads is banana bread. I always seem to have some over ripe bananas on hand. But since this is Thanksgiving month I have a recipe for Pumpkin Nut bread to share today. The recipe will make 2 small loaves
1 cup Fresh or Canned Pumpkin
2 cups Sifted Flour
1 cup Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 cup Milk
1/4 cup Soft Butter or margarine
1 cup Chopped Walnuts
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 teaspoon Salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and spices. In a separate large bowl, combine pumpkin, sugar, milk and eggs. Add dry ingredients, and butter to pumpkin mixture until well blended. Mix in chopped nuts.
Pour into greased loaf pans 9 by 5 by 3. Bake in oven for 45 to 55 minutes. Check with a toothpick. It is done when it comes out clean. Slice to desired thickness after completely cool.
Looks like another 60 degree day coming our way!
I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Grace is available for each of us every day -- our spiritual daily bread -- but we've got to remember to ask for it with a grateful heart and not worry about whether there will be enough for tomorrow.
Sarah Ban Breathnach
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3319. for bread, so good when it is warm out of the oven
3320. for pumpkins, I made a cake from the one I had
3321. for ovens that not only bake good things, but also warm up the house
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
37 Days Until Christmas
Save money on holiday meals. Know your portions. Most of us know the shame of tossing several pounds of dried out drumsticks and crumbled white meat a week after the feast is over.
This year, limit waste by buying only as much turkey as your family truly needs. Think one pound per person. If you want a few leftovers for sandwiches, calculate your needs at one and one half pounds per person. Generous leftovers, enough for another meal or two plus sandwiches, require a figure of two pounds per person
Remember: Thanksgiving Friday specials included pans of prebaked rolls, fresh yams, and a variety of beef and chicken markdowns. Anything that has a sell by date and hasn't sold by Thanksgiving may show up, discounted, the day after the big feast.
Smart shoppers take note! Shop for the Christmas holiday meal the day after Thanksgiving.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
A loaf of bread, the Walrus said, is what we chiefly need.

That pumpkin bread recipe looks delicious :) I do like my bread, but haven't made homemade bread in years. My mom and sister always made some around Christmas and Easter; always delicious too :)
