THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When you love someone all your saved up wishes start coming out.
Elizabeth Bowen
As usual my birthday wishes went out in a card to this DIL. I will be seeing her soon though, as they are hosting our family Thanksgiving this year. Hard to believe it’s only just a couple of weeks away now. Before that we will be having a few more November birthdays to celebrate, some in person and some not.
Today is going to be a busy one for me with preparations for the coming holidays. I’m trying to get things ready for what I hope will be a new tradition here at my house - a Gingerbread House party.
In the past we’ve celebrated the day after Thanksgiving at Christmas in the Colonies and last year we went to Christmas in the Country. Both of these were in little towns not far away but offered an old time experience at shopping away from the crowds that go crazy with Black Friday shopping.
As there are several little people in our family now, we found that shopping anyplace is not a fun thing for them, so I’m hoping this new way of spending the day together will be happy occasion for every one, both young and old. We’ll see...
I hope you all have a GREAT day! Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Where there is great love, there are always wishes.
Willa Cather
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3304. For DDIL#1, it’s her birthday today
3305. for holiday preparations, they are half the fun
3306. for a new tradition, it’s worth a try
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
42 Days Until Christmas
If you want to do some early baking for the holidays, this is a favorite cookie to make and it freezes well, so you can make them up to 5 weeks ahead of time.
Snowballs which are also known as Mexican Wedding Cakes will brighten holiday cookie trays. Shaped, baked and rolled in powdered sugar while warm, Mexican Wedding Cakes have a rich, crumbly texture plumped with pecan flavor. If you are freezing them just make sure that they're dusted with a fresh layer of powdered sugar after being thawed.
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted and divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat butter, shortening and one cup powdered sugar until fluffy.
Add salt and vanilla, and beat well. Stir in flour, 1/3 at a time. Mix in nuts.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, until light brown,
While warm, roll in remaining one half cup powdered sugar, and cool on a wire rack. When cool, roll again in remaining sugar.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Happy birthday to your DDIL#1 :) I hope the day is a good one for her.
I like the idea of a gingerbread house party. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun :)

Love the wonderful family pictures.
A gingerbread house party sounds utterly divine to me.
