Life is a Special Occasion!

Today we celebrate Flag Day. What we know fondly as the 'Stars and Stripes' was adopted by the Continental Congress as the official American flag on June 14, 1777, in the midst of the Revolutionary War. The first flag had 13 stars on a blue field and 13 alternating red and white stripes for the 13 original colonies. Now there are 50 stars, one for each state in the Union, but the 13 stripes remain. Flag Day was first celebrated in 1877, on the flag's 100th birthday.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Oh! say, does that star spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Francis Scott Key, The Star-Spangled Banner
I always keep my flag flying here at my house because I’m proud to be an American. The flag of the United States represents freedom and has been an enduring symbol of the country’s ideals since its early days.
No one ever hosts a Flag Day cookout or sends a Flag Day greeting card. Nobody gets to take a long weekend away from the office, but to me Flag Day is definitely worth celebrating. The week of June 14th is designated as National Flag Week, when the President issues a proclamation urging U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the week and the flag is displayed on all government buildings.
Around my house, most any celebration includes food, so here is some ideas for today. Start off with Blueberry Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. Make peanut butter and jelly Flag Sandwiches for lunch. Simply add strawberry cream cheese and blueberry jam. Include red, white and blue salads for dinner, and end with a flag cake for dessert.
I hope you all have a RESTFUL and relaxing Sunday!

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Off with your hat, as the flag goes by!
And let the heart have its say;
you're man enough for a tear in your eye
that you will not wipe away.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I look forward to when we move and get our own place so we can put up a flag pole. I too like to fly the flag. I will have to see as I'm driving to church this morning if a lot of people have their flags displayed today.

Beautiful. My son and his family proudly fly their flag every day. I wish our HOA allowed us to do the same.
My bunting is on the railing!!
Nice of you to remind folks today.
Have a wonderful evening.
