Life is a Special Occasion!

Ice Cream Soda Day is celebrated annually on June 20th. An ice cream soda aka float is a beverage that consists of ice cream in soda. An ice cream soda is perfect to cool you down on a sizzling June summer day and offers a refreshing snap that leaves you yearning for more.
Nowadays, there are a range of variations on the originally invented ice cream soda, even encompassing root beer floats, Boston coolers and purple cows. To adequately make Ice Cream Soda Day a celebration just grab some soda, a couple of scoops of ice cream and a straw.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

There was a time, not that long ago, when every town had soda fountain shop, these days the few that exist are just a novelty experience. I grew up in a small town that had more than one. Sometimes my friends and I would head over to the the local five and dime that was right downtown. Downtown was basically one main street and a few side streets with shops. Not too small and not too big. They had a lunch counter where you could enjoy a hamburger and an ice cream soda.
As it has been hot and humid here, eating ice cream in any form is a great way to cool down. It’s actually pretty easy to make a good old fashion ice cream soda. The ingredients are pretty simple: ice cream, chocolate syrup, soda or seltzer water and some whip cream and sprinkles for the top.
Depending on the size of your glass, use about 2 Tablespoons of chocolate syrup to 1/2 C soda or seltzer water. Then a couple scoops of ice cream and a hit of whip cream and sprinkles! Pretty simple! You could switch it up with some chocolate ice cream for more chocolately goodness.
The pictures today are from last year when when we enjoyed some Ice Cream and root beer floats here at my house.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !

Wow, this made me remember my father being so excited to visit a soda fountain in Colorado Springs, famous for something called a black cow.
Hubby likes his floats with Dad's Old-Fashioned Root Beer.
(Hmmm... still full from lunch. Maybe that's 'what's for dinner!')
