If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
It was on this date in 1967 that Phil Donahue’s day time television talk show premiered on WLWE/TV in Dayton, Ohio. Donahue is considered the pioneer of TV programs that included controversial tops and audience participation. The Phil Donahue show syndicated after two years and it relocated its broadcast studio to Chicago in 1974, then to New York. The show went off the air in 1996.
Talk is by far the most accessible of pleasures. It costs nothing in money, it is all profit, it completes our education, founds and fosters our friendships, and can be enjoyed at any age and in almost any state of health.
Robert Louis Stevenson
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
That it hardly becomes any of us. To talk about the rest of us.
Edward Wallis
I’ve never been a fan of talk shows. I have watched them to see what others liked so much about them but never got into the habit of watching them day in and day out. I really do like anything that tells about something good someone has done and will watch that, but to hear the gossip and low down on whatever bad someone has done just doesn’t float my boat.
More days than not, the TV doesn’t even come on until evening here at my house. I like to watch a movie and do some knitting. I seem to get more of my handwork done if I let the TV keep me company. Sad to say there haven’t been many good movies on lately. I’ve been watching reruns of reruns. Soon the Hallmark Channel should be having some new movies out for Christmas and I’ll be enjoying those.
Lots and Lots of rain today, thankfully it’s not snow! I’m sending this out a bit late today as I’ve been out doing some special Christmas shopping. More to come on that later. A big THANK YOU to my youngest sister and her hubby for a fun trip!
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Fear less, hope more; eat less, chew more; whine less, breathe more; talk less, say more; hate less, love more; and all good things are yours.
Swedish Proverb
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1106. for those that respect others privacy
1107. for talking less and listening more
1108. for ears that hear, more or less
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Talk is cheap. Words are plentiful. Deeds are precious.
H. Ross Perot
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Glad you got a chance to get some Christmas shopping in, Ma! I agree with you, not much good things on TV these days, movies or whatever. I know hubby has a few TV shows he likes to watch, I spend a lot of my evenings on the computer LOL :)
betty
We watch enough TV here for everybody... Glad you had a nice day out... Happy Wednesday!! :)
I always watched Donahue. He wasn't always right about things, but then he wasn't always wrong either. I don't watch talk shows now, but turn something on when I sew just to hear voices but couldn't tell you a thing they said. Spits of snow for us tomorrow, but no sticking!
