If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday which honors people who have served in armed service also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.
We honor all members of the Armed Forces who who served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me. In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
This holiday originally was called Armistice Day and was first celebrated in 1921. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day, in honor of those who served and died from all wars.
On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence
TAPS
Day is done, gone the sun.
From the lake, from the hill. From the sky.
All is well, safely rest. God is nigh.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.
St. Frances Prayer for Peace
I can never say enough about our brave men and women who give up so much to protect and guard our country. It is sad that we must have a military force to do so and I do pray for peace daily along with praying for our troops every day.
It’s to be a rainy day here with a chance it’ll change to snow tonight as it’ll get below freezing. After being so busy last week it is a bit quieter here this week which is good as I have much more to do on my Christmas gift making. My countdown to Christmas planner says that at this point I should have:
Thanksgiving crafts planned -??
Thanksgiving meal planning completed - my daughter gets to do that this year
Christmas cards assembled - I do have my cards and the postage stamps purchased
I hope you all have a great start to the new week and have a happy Monday!
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
This past week I spent a lot of hours finishing up a baby blanket I was knitting and turned the TV on for company. I happened to watch the Food Channel one afternoon and they were making slow cooker mac and cheese. It was so simple that I decided to try it out so I thought I’d share the recipe. DS#1 and his wife have made something similar in the past and I enjoyed it so thought it was worth a try. It turned out to be delicious !
Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese
1 box elbow macaroni, cooked
1 can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 stick melted butter
2 eggs well beaten
3 or 4 cups grated cheddar cheese
salt
pepper
paprika
Mix everything together in a crock pot. Save a little of the cheese to sprinkle on top along with some paprika.
Cook on low for 3 hours…I only cooked it for 2 hour and it was done.
Hope you all enjoy it, I know I did!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

Thank you Veterans and May God Bless the USA.
I am going to try that slow cooker mac and cheese, Ma! It does look yummy! I love watching the Food Channel, LOL, so many great ideas on it.
I think that is neat that you have a holiday planner to help keep you on track to get things done for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Saves stress I bet!
