If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
It was on this date in 1788 that New Jersey native Benjamin Stites and 26 other men, women and children landed on flatboats on the north shore of the Ohio river just west of the Little Miami River. Near what is now Lunken Airport on Cincinnati’s east side they built a block house dubbed Fort Miami and established Columbia. It was the second white settlement in Ohio.
Stites had hopes of Columbia becoming a great city. The bottomland of the Little Miami was good for farming but the settlement was prone to flooding. The Columbians moved west to the base of Tusculum hill and the last vestiges of Fort Miami was washed away by the Ohio River in 1838.
There are two big forces at work, external and internal. We have very little control over external forces such as tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, disasters, illness and pain. What really matters is the internal force. How do I respond to those disasters? Over that I have complete control.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.
Willa Cather
Here in our part of the world, we have very little flooding if any. When flooding does occur after heavy rains fall, it is always devastating both to the people and to property. We don’t have control over any natural disasters, but it how we handle what happens that is important.
There will always be some kind of storm in our lives, they may not be the devastating ones, but there will be things that happen that will make us wish they hadn’t and it’s in this times I think we learn a lot and grow stronger. I’ve learned we just have to make our own sunshine, no matter the weather.
This past weekend we were warmer and got some pretty bad storms and winds here and now the week ahead will once again be much colder. We were in the 60’s on Sunday, today we’ll see mid 40’s for a high. Thankfully there is no more snow in the forecast for now anyway.
I hope you all have a great start to this new week and have a Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Home is a shelter from storms - all sorts of storms.
William J. Bennett
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1142. for my home that gives shelter during the storms
1143. for the storms that strengthen us
1144. for another new week
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
Sometimes God calms the storm. At other times, he calms the sailor. And sometimes he makes us swim.

So true about the storms of our lives, Ma. I'm glad after some storms there are rainbows; always a good reminder of God's provision and protection over us, no matter in the hardest and most destructive times.
