If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Nathan Clark and his family were the first permanent settlers in the township of LaGrange, Ohio, arriving on November 14, 1825. Nathan, his brother-in-law, James Pelten and two other men, who came with the party, erected a log cabin to house the family.
By the end of 1826, there were sixty people living in the township. Although families were scattered throughout the township, they were neighbors ready to lend a helping hand. The helped each other clear the land, build cabins and reap the harvest. Every pioneer who entered the Western Reserve was a hero and should be remembered by all whom live here today. There was everything to overcome and very little material possessions to help them
Nine requisites for contented living:
Health enough to make work a pleasure.
Wealth enough to support your needs.
Strength to battle with difficulties and overcome them.
Grace enough to confess your sins and forsake them.
Patience enough to toil until some good is accomplished.
Charity enough to see some good in your neighbor.
Love enough to move you to be useful and helpful to others.
Faith enough to make real the things of God.
Hope enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future.
Johann von Goethe
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.
Herman Melville
LaGrange, Ohio is a place I’m very familiar with. I’ve driven through it many times. It’s located on a highway I often take when going south. I’m always in awe of our pioneer families. They risked a lot to travel to new places to live. Our country is relatively new compared to other countries and the settlers of this new land had a lot of work to do in order to live in this country. I can only imagine just how valuable their neighbors were to them as they struggled to help each other.
A few of the pictures today are of the snow we had on Tuesday of this week. While there are still a few leaves left on some trees here, thankfully most are bare now. When the trees are heavy with both snow and leaves we tend to get a lot of power outages and that was not the case here.
It’s been a busy but quiet week so far here at my house. I’ve tackled some of my Christmas projects and continue to plug away here. Time is getting short. We’ll see when all is said and done just exactly how much I was able to get done. Pictures of Santa ‘ma’s workshop will be coming after Christmas is over.
I hope you all have a great Thursday!
Let me be a little kinder,
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults about me;
Let me praise a little more,
Let me be, when I am weary;
Just a little bit more cheery,
Let me serve a little better
Those that I am striving for.
Let me be a little braver
When temptation bids me waver,
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be;
Let me be a little meeker to the brother that is weaker;
Let me think more of my neighbor and a little less of me.

COUNTING MY GIFTS
There's one good thing about snow, it makes your lawn look as nice as your neighbor's.
Clyde Moore
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1130. for the settlers of a new country
1131. for people that work together to get a job done
1132. for good neighbors, I am blessed to have one
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.
Nicholas de Chamfort
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Always liked the first snow of the season. Looks pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your workshop after Christmas, Ma. I liked those 9 requisites for living; another good one to print out!
betty
The snow pictures are so pretty. We don't have much snow here we had two days of cold now it's warming back up. I love the cold days and wish it would last longer than a day or two. I'm hoping I can all my Christmas decoration up before Thanksgiving, I'm thinking about getting a lady at the florist here decorate my tree. I'm enjoying my dura flame heater it looks and feel like I'm sitting by a fireplace, Lol. Take care, Jean
Goerthe's "prayer" was wonderful, and I am going to copy it down tomorrow, when I am not so tired. Thank you, MA.
Love the snow pictures Pam. They say we may get some next week, which is very unusual for this time of year. As usual if we do it will paralyze the country. It always does! Loved your thoughts and Goerthe's prayer . . . the 9 requisites for living. All food for the soul. Love all of your posts Pam. Have a great Friday! xxoo
How pretty the snow pictures... :)
