It's WEDNESDAY…

OVER THE HUMP WE GO…

Thankfully it is now mid week and tomorrow is the last day of the work week for me. I’ve been quite busy at work and today should be another busy one. Our men have been working so that means work for me. I like it that way.

The picture above was taken last February so we don’t have that much snow on the ground but we do have quite a bit. The worse thing the past few days has been the bitter cold we are having. It is only 13 degrees here this morning.

It would be easy to follow the norm and go with the flow. But doing the work God calls us to do takes effort, perseverance, hope, and vision. Faith sustains us as we make our way, even if it is against the current of life, to enter into the Promised Land

NEW IN THE KITCHEN

Here is a little New Year food trivia for you today…

How did the pig become associated with the idea of good luck? In Europe hundreds of years ago, wild boars were caught in the forests and killed on the first day of the year. Also, a pig uses its snout to dig in the ground in a forward direction. Maybe people liked the idea of moving forward as the new year began, especially since pigs are also associated with plumpness and getting plenty to eat. However the custom arose, Austrians, Swedes, and Germans frequently choose pork or ham for their New Year's meal

They brought this tradition with them when they settled in different regions of the United States. New Englanders often combine their pork with sauerkraut to guarantee luck and prosperity for the coming year. Germans and Swedes may pick cabbage as a lucky side dish, too

Celebrations marking the inexorable march of Father Time often involve foods imbued with symbolism, such as in the Pennsylvania Dutch New Year's tradition of sauerkraut (for wealth) and pork--the pig roots forward into the future, unlike the Christmas turkey, which buries the past by scratching backward in the dirt

ATTIRE FOR TODAY

My red sweater with a shirt of some kind under it is what I’m wearing today. The layers are still needed. BrrrChill! They say red keeps us alert, enhances activity energizes the body and encourages self-confidence

I think I really need to wear red today.

PRAYERS

Our lives are made of days and nights, of seasons and years, for we are part of a universe of suns and moons and planets. We mark ends and we make beginnings and, in all, we praise God for the grace and mercy that fill our days.

Remember us, 0 God; from age to age be our comforter. You have given us the wonder of time, blessings in days and nights, seasons and years.

Lord, hold our troops in

your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.

Bless them and their families for the

AROUND HOME

Here is the rocker that sits on my back patio. It is snow covered at the monment. Behind it is my trusty snow shovel too.

They say this may be the warmest day of the week and more snow is coming out way tomorrow.

It seems just a few short days ago I said good bye to my little place in the woods. Look at all those leaves! I imagine they are still there…buried under the snow.
