For Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
a pictorial journal
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
It's TUESDAY…
Christmas time is near
Time for toys and time for cheer
We’ve been good, but we can’t last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
Want a plane that loops the loop
Me, I want a hula hoop
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don’t be late
The Chipmunks were at the #1 position on the music charts on this day in 1958 as Alvin, Simon, and Theodore sang with David Seville. The Chipmunk Song, the novelty tune that topped the charts for a month, is still a Christmas favorite today
I remember listening to those Chipmunks on the radio and singing along…they were on TV too and we all thought they were pretty wonderful little guys for sure.
The time is getting short now till that wonderful magical Christmas Day…We can hardly stand to wait…
THINKING
Advent is the time of hope, a time to renew the light of Christ in our lives.
As He came to bring us the light of eternal life, we hope to share our light with others.
O Antiphon for Today
O Rex Genitium: O King of all the nations, the only joy of every human heart; O Keystone of the mighty arch of man, come and save the creatures you fashioned from the dust
Isaiah 2:4
Joy is the true gift of Christmas, not expensive presents that demand time and money. We can transmit this joy simply: with a smile, with a kind gesture, with some small help, with forgiveness. Let us give this joy and the joy given will be returned to us.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
The picture above is one of the things DD fixed for our Christmas celebration. She took some little smokies wrapped in bacon and warmed in the oven til the bacon was crisp.
Here’s a new to me cookie recipe you might like to try
Cupboard Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup oatmeal, old fashioned or instant
1 cup crushed cereal, flakes, crispy types; anything crunchy
1/2 cup coconut
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
granulated sugar
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl cream the butter and sugars with a mixer. Add egg, oil, and vanilla; beat well. Stir in next 5 ingredients with a wooden spoon. Sift flour, baking soda and salt into the mixture. Stir until all the dry ingredients are mixed in
Shape into 1 1/2 inch loose balls. Flatten the cookies with a fork dipped in granulated sugar
Place on an ungreased cookie or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake 10-12 minutes or until VERY lightly browned around edges. These are better when not browned too much unless you want them to be extra crispy. Cool on sheets before removing to wire racks. Makes about 8 dozen
ATTIRE FOR TODAY
BrrrChill !
It will be another cold one here. Highs will be in the lower 30’s and there is another chance for snow.
PRAYERS
God, help me to find You in the ordinary and extraordinary events of each day
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
Every evening I’ve been enjoying the Christmas movies on TV. There sure are a lot of good ones. It feels really great just to relax and enjoy the sounds and sights of Christmas. A movie just isn’t the same without popcorn and DD makes the best. The picture above shows DD opening her new popcorn popper she got for Christmas.
FAMILY ALBUM
Here we are looking at Our Prince Charming and DDIL#5 after they broke the wish bone … Did you ever see such a face as the one our Prince Charming made…
They did decide to share the wish making.
COUNTING THE DAYS
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other
Burton Hillis
We wish you a Merry Christmas!
87 DAYS UNTIL SPRING !
3 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
AND
115 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
