ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
DECEMBER 17th, 2009
It's THURSDAY…
BrrrChill!
We made it over the Hump of the week and are now sliding right into the weekend. I’m getting excited about our family Christmas celebration on Saturday. It’ll be quiet here after then for sure. My Christmas Day will be spent going to church and then simply relaxing. All my celebrating will be done and over.
THINKING
Advent is the time of hope, a time to renew the light of Christ in our lives.
As He came to bring us the light of eternal life, we hope to share our light with others.
The O Antiphons were first used in the 8th and 9th centuries. They are based on various titles for the Christ and are scripturally-based short prayers for the 17th to the 23rd of December. In these O Antiphons we express our deep longing for the coming of the Messiah
O Sapentia: O Wisdom, O Holy Word of God, you govern all creation with your strong yet tender care. Come and show your people the way to salvation.
Isaiah 11:2-3;28:29
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Your recipe for today is to make a Birthday Cake for Jesus. You can use any flavor cake mix you'd like and actually decorate it any way you like. The important part to remember is Christmas IS Jesus' Birthday. Maybe you can sit down with your family this evening, sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, enjoy the cake, and then each member of the family can say what they will give Him for His birthday this year.
The forecast says a high of 30 today and partly sunny. After a cold start down in the 20’s this morning, that sounds almost like a heat wave.
PRAYERS
O God, my heart desires the warmth of your love,
and my mind is searching for the light of your Word.
Increase my longing for Jesus.
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
This is one of the sleds I painted for gifts a few years ago for my family. I’ve done more for this Christmas and will be adding to their collection when I see them on Saturday. Pictures will be coming after our get together so you’ll be seeing them then.
At the rate my family is increasing I’ve decided I’d better start painting in July for Christmas next year if I want to keep on doing this. I also painted an ornament for each of the grand children too.
FAMILY ALBUM
This Rudolph the Green Nosed Reindeer – a family heirloom for sure!
Not everyone has one of these
COUNTING THE DAYS
These lights are in front of DS#5’s house
We wish you a Merry Christmas!
A very old Christmas eve tradition in Germany was to hide a pickle [ornament] deep in the branches of the family Christmas Tree. The parents hung the pickle last after all the other ornaments were in place. In the morning they knew the most observant child would receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. The first adult who finds the pickle traditionally gets good luck for the whole year

I love all your pictures every day Ma.He-He at the green nosed reindeer. He might be valuable one day who knows LOL!!The sleds are beautiful all your craft work is.Very talented you are. It's getting closer to your get together.so I am not suprized you are excited I would be too.Enjoy every minute.I love the thought of making Jesus a birthday cake.I shall suggest that to my Grandaughter 9yr old she likes baking, and no doubt she will be around next week one day as they break up from school this Friday,so the oven will be on full blast that day.It keeps her entertained.Take Care God Bless Kath xx
A "green" nosed reindeer! That's a new one on me. What stories can a person concoct about him?
Perhaps that's how we tell reindeer are ill, by their green noses.
Perhaps he's Rudolph's Irish cousin, Ferus!
Perhaps he's Rudbeckia, the gardening reindeer.
Okay -- I'll stop now!
You are so talented what a lovely keepsake you have made. I am sure your grandchildren will treasure them for many years to come. have a great time on Saturday and a peaceful day on Christmas Day. Love Joan.
