ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
DECEMBER 21ST, 2009
It's MONDAY…
It’s Humbug Day.
Humbug Day allows everyone preparing for Christmas to vent their frustrations
Sure, venting frustration over the stress of Christmas is appropriate for this day. But, Humbug Day is much more. Humbug Day brings out the Scrooge in all of us. Scrooges all over have been waiting for this day, and come out of the woodwork in great numbers. They go far beyond venting a few frustrations. Many scrooges are negative towards Christmas in general, and can put a real damper on your Christmas spirit.
Use Humbug Day to release the stress of the holiday season. But, whatever you do, avoid becoming a real, bona fide Christmas Scrooge
It is also LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE DAY and I’ve written more about that on my blog today so if you want to check that out you can click on the link at the bottom of this newsletter to WHAT’S NEW AT MY HOUSE.
THINKING
Advent is the time of hope, a time to renew the light of Christ in our lives.
As He came to bring us the light of eternal life, we hope to share our light with others.
O Antiphon for Today
O Oriens: O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death
Isaiah 9:1-2
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
We had so many good things to eat at our family gathering it is hard to even think about more food right now, but here is another family recipe for the holidays.
SAUSAGE BREAD
This has to be one of the all time favorites of my family
I usually make this recipe for three loaves of Sausage Bread at a time.
3 loaves frozen bread dough…thawed according to package directions
2 stalks celery finely diced
1 green pepper finely diced
2 pounds sausage (the bulk Italian Sausage or Plain is best)
3 eggs
3 cups mozzarella cheese
Approximately 1 cup of parmesan cheese
Let your bread dough rise just like you would when baking a loaf of bread.
Brown sausage together with the celery and green pepper
When it is all nicely browned drain the grease and save in a bowl as you’ll use this later on when baking
Remove the pan from the burner and add 3 eggs well beaten to the mixture. I then sprinkle this mixture with parmesan cheese …approx. 1/3 cup. Stirring until well combined
Taking one loaf of dough at a time flatten and roll out on a well floured surface.
When it is rolled out to an oval shape about 1 foot by 2 feet spread 1/3 the sausage and egg mixture on top of it. Then cover this with 1/3 the mozzarella cheese.
Roll your dough up like a jelly roll and secure ends with toothpicks and place on greased cookie sheet in a horseshoe shape.
Baste the dough with some of the grease you saved and set aside after browning the sausage.
Bake in 350 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes. Basting tops of loaves with the grease every 15 minutes. The loaf is done when it is golden brown
Repeat for this for the other 2 loaves
Serve warm sausage bread with a mustard sauce made from 2 parts mustard and 1 part cocktail sauce and 1 part horseradish sauce. You can alter these amounts according to your own taste.
I’ve done up this recipe from memory and it may not read as well as the original but it will make a delicious snack .
ATTIRE FOR TODAY
It is the first day of winter so this is the shirt I’ll have on today. I’ll have a turtle neck shirt under it as it’ll be a chilly one out there today.
There is a little more snow in our forecast but not much. We can be thankful that we’ve not had the storms that some have had. They are calling it the blizzard of 2009 and thankfully it missed us this time.
PRAYERS
Holy Spirit, nothing can compare with your wonderful plan for me. Help me to remain open to you so that I can see more of your will for my life
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
I’ll be treasuring the moments I spent with my grandchildren this past weekend. They have all grown so much since I last saw them and spending time with my children was wonderful.
This week will be a nice 3 ½ day short work week. I only have to work ½ day on Christmas eve. I’ve no plans except for Church on Christmas day and probably visiting with each of my sisters at some point during the Christmas holiday weekend.
DS#5 and #6 did mention wanting to do something together on Sunday afternoon. It probably depends on the weather just exactly what we will do.
Have a wonderful week everyone!

COUNTING THE DAYS
I painted this slate many years ago for the ‘babes’ at Christmas. DS#5 had his hanging up when we were there last Saturday so I got a picture of it to share.
We wish you a Merry Christmas!
IT IS WINTER !
4 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
AND
116 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
