Honesty is a great virtue.  If we want people to believe us when its important, then we need to be open and honest all the time.

The truth is that this is another one of my long distance family birthday celebrations.  Still I’m happy to be celebrating have sent off a card with all my love and best wishes for a very happy Birthday.  

I call this grandson our Sunshine Boy, because he has always brought a lot of happiness my way even though he has always lived far away.  His smiles and laughter has always brightened my days.  It’s not a bad thing at all to always be remembered for your smiles.

This is the last day of April and tomorrow we turn over a new leaf of the calendar.  May is going to be filled with a few more birthdays and even a couple of anniversaries to celebrate. There will also be two more First Communions for two of my grandsons and more cake to bake.

Truth be told, one of my grandsons does not like cake and will not eat it so I plan on making a chocolate chip cookie cake for him.  I thought I’d share the recipe in case you have people that would rather have a cookie than cake too.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

1 c butter, softened

3/4 c. white sugar

3/4 c. brown sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

2 1/4 c. flour

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 c. chocolate chips

1 c M&M’s

Beat butter, sugars, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs and beat well

Slowly add in flour, salt and baking soda then mix until well blended.  Add in chocolate chips and M&M’s

Spread into a pan and bake 20-25 minutes

Frost or decorate as desired.

As the weather warms up we are about to get busier and busier here at my house.  On Friday I’ll be getting together with two of my dear friends.  It’s been far too long since we were last together and we hope to find something outdoors to do, weather permitting.

We have some lovely parks nearby and I hope to get some pictures to share.  One of them even has a dining room where we could eat and also view some lovely sights indoors and out.

I have to truthfully admit that I didn’t get finished with my closet clean out last week, but I’m very close and by mid week I should be able to start spring cleaning, but only for 15 minutes a day.   After all I do have some cake baking to do.

I often feel as though I’m dancing my way though life. Dancing leaves you spinning and twirling just like rhythms of life are always changing as we create, celebrate and move on.   

How we choose to dance is up to us. I choose to dance with my heart singing and doing what I love every day.  Every day may not be a good one, but there is something good to be found in everyday when you take the time to look for it.  

I’m so thankful for another Sunday.  I’ll be doing a slow dance today.  Remember life isn’t a race so take it slower, hear the music before you song is over.

Since I really don’t have any pictures of dancing, I thought I’d share pictures of some of my grandchildren on their way to a dance.  What handsome and beautiful young people they all are.

Today is National Sense of Smell Day.  The importance of the sense of smell is often overlooked and some don’t truly appreciate how much of a role it plays in every day of our lives.

Smell serves to protect us from danger. It can trigger memories in a way that little else can.  It’s also a fact that no two people smell odors in quite the same way.  

The best way to celebrate today is to give your snifter a good work out ! Try savoring new scents though out the day and really take time to appreciate all the various odors that cross your path.

There are many wonderful smells to enjoy.  One of my favorites is the smell of my good cup of coffee brewing every morning.  The smell of Spring is in the air.  I can tell if a cake I’m baking is done, just by the smell coming from the oven.  

Flowers all have a smell of their own.  Roses are different from hyacinths, yet both are very fragrant.  Wood smoke in the air always reminds me of camping.  Babies have a very unique smell and one that I treasure.  

Thankfully I’m not allergic to any smells, but some are.  I appreciate them all, even the bad ones because they warn us of something that’s wrong.   The other day I accidentally turned on the gas in the stove , but due to my sense of smell I quickly turned it off.  

This week I made a pot of chili and it’s spiciness quickly filled the house with a smell that made me very hungry.  I could go on and on about smells, there are so many and for me, most of them are good ones.

It’s to be a rainy start to the day and even that has a smell of it’s own.  It’s a good to turn on the oven and bake some banana bread.
