Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Good Neighbor Day! Neighbors are an integral part of our social lives, whether at home or at work. Good Neighbor Day on September 28th is an annual holiday that promotes neighborliness and niceness towards people who surround us.
In 1978, American President, Jimmy Carter issued a proclamation that designated September 24, 1978 as National Good Neighbor Day. In 2003, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution making September 28th, National Good Neighbor Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Nine Requisites for Contented Living: Health enough to make work a pleasure. Wealth enough to support your needs. Strength to battle with difficulties and overcome them. Grace enough to confess your sins and forsake them. Patience enough to toil until some good is accomplished. Charity enough to see some good in your neighbor. Love enough to move you to be useful and helpful to others. Faith enough to make real the things of God. Hope enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future.
Johann Wolgang von Goethe
Having a good neighbor and being a good neighbor is the same as having a good friend, in order to have one we need to be one. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves and sometimes that isn’t always easy to do, but it’s the best thing to do.
Knowing what we should do and doing it are often two different things. But when we know the best way to live, it’s best to follow the rules. And the golden rule applies in this case. It is the principle of treating others as one would wish to be treated oneself. Loving God, loving yourself, and loving your neighbor are the keys to life's happiness. When you help another with love, you are helped, too. Having a good neighbor is a blessing!
It’s definitely been cooler here this week and I’ve appreciated having a warm blanket on the bed. The house cools down significantly at night. This morning it was only 54 degrees here. The outside warms up with the sun and yesterday we had a pleasant day in the 70’s. Today they say there may be rain so temps are to hold around the mid 60’s.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Strawberry Creme Pie Day!
I’m not sure at all how they name these food holidays, but it does seem strange having this one when strawberries aren’t even in season. Still and all they are always a tasty treat and strawberries are very good for you too.
Strawberry Creme Pie
Crust
1 refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box
Filling
1 package, 8 oz, cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup whipping cream
2 pints strawberries
Garnish
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon shortening
Heat oven to 450°F. Make pie crust as directed on box for One Crust Baked Shell using 9 inch glass pie pan Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
In large bowl with electric mixer, beat cream cheese on medium speed until fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar and almond extract until well blended.
In small bowl with electric mixer, beat whipping cream on high speed until soft peaks form. Fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture. Spoon into cooled baked shell.
Arrange strawberries, pointed side up, over cream cheese mixture. Refrigerate while preparing garnish.
In a 1 quart saucepan, melt chocolate chips and shortening over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Drizzle over strawberries and cream cheese mixture. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until set. Store in refrigerator.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Love one another and you will be happy. It's as simple and as difficult as that.
Michael Leunig
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

The pumpkins and mums are so beautiful together. If I did that, I would just be feeding a bunch of lazy squirrels and they would mess up the mum plant as well. Chilly this morning here in Dearborn.
I liked that quote about wisdom and virtue. Good to hear it is cooling down a bit. I wonder when we will have to put a blanket on the bed, the air conditioner still kicks on some at night, just doesn't stay on that long. It is good to be a good neighbor and to have a good neighborhood to live in!
betty
I would rather have a good neighbor than the most expensive house in the world!
Oh I do love all of your pumpkin decorations. I wish we had more in the way of that sort of thing over here in the UK. I love Jimmy Carter and his ideas. I try to be a good neighbor always and I am fortunate in that we have good neighbors. I love all that you share Pam. You amaze me at what you come up with every day! God bless! xoxo
