7 DAYS UNTIL FALL

Life is a Special Occasion!

Felt Hat Day is today. On this day, men traditionally wear a felt hat. Women can participate in this day, too. They just have to have a felt hat.
Back in the early to mid 1900s, hats were popularly worn by both men and women. It was stylish. At that time, felt was a common material for men's hats. With cooler Fall weather approaching, the guys went to the coat closet and dusted off their felt hats , and began to wear them once more.
Celebrating this day is easy...just wear a felt hat. It can be of any style, as long as the material is felt. No other hat material will do

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
So many hats and only one head!
It’s certainly not cool enough for hats here yet, unless you want to count the straw hat I wear to shade my eyes from the sun, but the days are coming soon when they will be appreciated. Most of the hats that I wear and that I see others wear are knit hats, not felt hats. I still do own a few felt ones. I even bought a new one last year. When it gets cold out I really prefer to wear a coat with a hood on it. They seem to do a better job of keeping me warm.
Meanwhile the weather has been very pleasant and remains summer like here. Not too hot, just right!
The expression 'wear many hats' is a metaphor for having many jobs. Sometimes we wear so many hats in the course of a day, it’s a wonder we keep our heads on straight. The difficulty comes when we try to wear more than one hat at a time, or forget to change from our work hat to our family hat.
I had a delightful breakfast with Grandma yesterday with our little Mr. Wonderful at his school. I’m usually not up and out of the house quite so early, but couldn’t miss a chance to spend a little time with this grandson. When I was working this was something I couldn’t do, so once again I’m thankful for retirement. The picture shown below was taken last year when I went to breakfast with him.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Linguine Day!
I found this recipe that uses zucchini to share with you all today. It seems every one has a plentiful supply of fresh zucchini this time of year.
Creamy Zucchini with Linguine
3/4 cup olive oil
2 large zucchini, diced
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 package, 12 ounce size, linguine pasta
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Warm olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add zucchini and garlic to hot oil, and season with salt and red pepper flakes. Cook, turning occasionally, until zucchini are well browned on all sides, about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of generously salted water to boil. Add pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain, and set aside.
Stir milk into zucchini, and simmer until it is reduced by about half, about 10 minutes. Add pasta to skillet, and stir well. Sprinkle parsley and 1/4 cup Parmesan over the top, and toss. Garnish with remaining Parmesan to serve.

I don't wear many hats, I think my head size is a litle big to wear one sometimes comfortably, but they can be so stylish. I bet breakfast with your grandson was lots of fun!

I bet little Mr. Wonderful was happy to have grandma for breakfast. He is one little cutie, and that's a pretty picture of you two together.
My mom loved hats!! She had a few. I wish I had kept some of them. But they are gone. I had some hats too. I know my granddaughters would have loved them. I will have to see if they are packed away somewhere. Loved your post today!!
Always like your family pictures, specially you and Mr. Wonderful. There is a lot to know about hats! Who knew!
