Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Swap Ideas Day which encourages us to share and trade ideas and concepts. As you fully participate in this day, you will get plenty of good ideas to put to use in your everyday life. Some will be so good, that you will want to pass them along or swap them with others.
Sharing is good. Ideas are a good thing, too. Putting the two together should produce a real winner of a day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The ideas that have lighted my way and, time after time, have given me new courage to face life cheerfully have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.
Albert Einstein
I love to receive and to share ideas to pass along to others. So here is my idea swap for today. Thanks to a blogger friend, I recently read about an idea for a plastic bag holder. You simply put those plastic bags in an empty tissue box. It keeps them neatly stored away and handy for use when you need one.
Others always seem to think of easy time savers and I often say, How simple is that. Why didn’t I think of that one myself? The thing is we all have something different to share and I for one am willing to learn something new every day.
What one doesn’t think about, another will. Some like to cook, some like to clean, some like to celebrate every day and that’s what I do. I like the idea of every day being a special one and think we all need to look on the bright side and find those reasons. They are there if we look for them.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s TV Dinner Day!
In 1953, C.A. Swanson & Sons introduced a new product called TV Dinners and changed the prepackaged meal industry forever. The term 'TV Dinner' is now synonymous with any prepackaged, frozen meal that requires little preparation and contains an entire single serving meal. Modern day TV dinners can be cooked in the microwave instead of the oven, and include gourmet recipes as well as organic and vegetarian dishes.
It’s easy to make your own, I often do just that by packing up my leftovers and freezing them for a meal later on. I found this simple recipe to try.
Vegetarian Burritos
¾ c. rice
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 medium onions, chopped
4 garlic cloves
1 jalapeno chile, optional
½ tsp. ground cumin
Coarse salt and ground pepper
3 tbsp. tomato paste
3 can pinto beans
1 bag frozen corn kernels
6 scallions
8 burrito size flour tortillas
2 c. shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Salsa and sour cream, optional
Cook rice according to package instructions; set aside. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large saucepan over medium. Add onions, garlic, jalapeno, and cumin; season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until golden, 10 to 12 minutes. Add tomato paste, and cook, stirring, 1 minute.
Add beans and 1 1/2 cups water; bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, 10 to 12 minutes. Add corn; cook to heat through, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in scallions.
Heat tortillas according to package instructions; fill with rice, bean mixture, and cheese. To assemble, mound 1/4 cup rice, 3/4 cup bean mixture, and 1/4 cup cheese on one side of tortilla. Fold, and hold in sides. Starting from filled end, holding sides in as you work, tightly roll into a bundle. Place on a baking sheet, seam side down, and prepare remaining burritos.
Serve immediately, with salsa and sour cream, if using, or wrap individually in plastic and freeze up to 3 months. These vegetarian burritos reheat well in the microwave.
When I was working, I often had a bean burrito for lunch. Very satisfying.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait. The grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.
Henry Ford
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4210. for ideas, there is always something new to learn
4211. for plastic bags, they do have a lot of good uses
4212. for beans, good and good for you too
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
When you write down your ideas you automatically focus your full attention on them. Few if any of us can write one thought and think another at the same time. Thus a pencil and paper make excellent concentration tools.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I like the convenience of a TV dinner every once I awhile. It is always great to swap ideas with others, we can sometimes be more productive as a result.

Another good idea is one I use frequently to clean my drains in the kitchen. Pour about 1/2 of baking soda in the drain and follow it up with vinegar. It really creates a giant fizz!! And leaves things smelling better too. We never had TV dinners when I was growing up. Too expensive. I bought them once in a while for my kids. And we used to make our own. Have a good weekend. Ma. I enjoy your blog so much!!
Swap Ideas Day... that's good advice about the tissue box, and I'm going to use it! I also carry used bags in my car for the dogs when we go to the park... I'm going to put one in the car, too!
What a grand theme for today! It's been decades, but I'll never forget the times I was made to feel like a vital part of the sales team at the television station (even tho' I was just an assistant) ... when they'd gather around the conference room table throwing out ideas and feeding on the synergy.
I'm going to share your burrito recipe w/ DH. He's fond of making up a big batch of this or that every couple of weeks and freezing in individual portions.
