82 DAYS UNTIL WINTER

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is World Heart Day which is part of an international campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention. This is the perfect day to start exercising and eating healthy, all in the name of keeping your ticker in good working order, and improving the health and well being of people the world over.
The World Heart Federation have found that heart disease and strokes are the world’s leading cause of death, killing 17.1 million people every year – that’s more than victims of cancer, HIV and AIDS and malaria.
Overeating, lack of exercise, unhealthy diets and high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels are all factors which can trigger heart disease and threaten our own lives, and those of loved ones. Heart Day was set up to drive home the message that heart problems can be prevented.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If you haven't got any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.
Bob Hope
Preventative medicine is very popular these days. Most will tell you to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods. They also say that how much you eat is just as important as what you eat. We should eat out less and at home more.
I think that moderation in all things is usually best and eating a healthy diet of all the basic food groups will keep you feeling better. I do love my food and like a variety.
Of course there are other kinds of heart troubles such as broken hearts, hard hearts, restless hearts, and lonely hearts. We need to remember that the heart of the matter is that it is the heart that matters.
There is love of life, love of nature, love of animals, love of others, and love of self, and all of these acts of love provide amazing health benefits.
Love heals and love is a vital for the health of your heart, body, mind and soul. We need to hug often and hold hands. Physical contact in a loving and nurturing way has the ability to instantly improve your mood, lower stress levels and put you at ease. Try to hug at least one person you love every day.
It’s looking like another chilly and wet day for us here and tomorrow isn’t looking much better. On the bright side, we have needed the rain and so I’ll be counting it as a blessing.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Biscotti Day !
I found this recipe to share that seemed to fit the season. These crunchy, aromatic cookies are perfect dipping into your morning coffee.
Pumpkin Biscotti
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup pumpkin purée
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 cup raw cashews, roughly chopped
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, pumpkin, vanilla and eggs until well combined. In a second bowl, whisk together flour, cashews, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder and salt. Add pumpkin mixture to flour mixture and stir until just combined. Using slightly damp hands, shape dough into three 6 by 2 1/2 inch logs and arrange on a large, parchment paper lined baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
Bake until just firm and golden brown, about 25 minutes. Set aside to let cool for 10 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 300 degrees. Using a serrated knife, cut each log crosswise into 1/2 inch thick slices. Arrange on 2 large, parchment paper lined baking sheets and bake, rotating the baking sheets and flipping biscotti every 10 minutes or so, until dried out and just crisp, 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool completely, and then serve. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.
Thornton Wilder
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4267. for a thankful heart
4268. for pumpkin and spice, all things nice
4269. for rain, we need it
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Good to hear you are getting some rain. Its funny how the seasons can change so quickly from hot to cooler temps almost like a drop of a dime. So true that moderation is the key in healthy eating and pretty much everything else we do. It is very important indeed the touch or a hug daily.

It's also National Coffee Day. And although I don't drink it often, I do enjoy a good cup. Goes perfectly with National Biscotti Day too! Bye bye MA!
Loved your thought for the day. I loved Bob Hope. Wasn't he just the best! I have never eaten a biscotti. I need to remedy that!
I loved all your thoughts on hearts and the quote from Bob Hope. Also all the information re health. Very helpful. That recipe look fabulous. I just adore biscotti! I agree, moderation in all things. I am a creature with very little willpower. I am better off not having treats around, but those biscotti are tempting me! Have a great friday Pam! Thanks for all that you share! xoxo
